And we should note that out of these multitudes of people you mention with chest pains, a significant % of them die every year. However there are lifestyle adjustments people can make to help with the situation. We'll see what happens and wish this guy the best as human beings, if we can take our fan hats off for a moment.
The most stressful people and jobs in the the world are done by hard working people.....and "D1 College Football coach" isn't on the list. So cry me a fucking river while he's "taking an indefinite leave" and polishing his trophies after he is through counting all of his cash.Last edited by f16harm; 12-27-2009, 10:32 PM.Comment

Someone please insert the Andruw Jones laughing GIF for me (I don't have the URL handy like most)

But he also has to deal with all of the expectations and pressure from an entire fanbase, as well as from the media in general considering he's said to be the best coach in America. As a prominent figure in the sports world he's put under a microscope, and with that microscope comes a lot of scrutiny following each and every move. Frankly I don't see the personal life of a factory worker being drug into the national news.
Being a football coach is one of the most vigorous jobs in America and requires a tireless work ethic that can often cause you to work upwords of 20 hours a day. Hell, on my official visit to Elon their WR coach was in the film room from Saturday at 5 pm until Sunday at noon... after coaching in a game for four hours and all of the preparation all day and week for it.
Do college coaches make bank? Yes, this is pretty obvious. But they are also work long and hard hours, as well as deal with the pressures and scrutiny of the media and an entire fanbase. I'm probably biased considering I have a lot of admiration for Urban Meyer and coaches like him because I plan on being a football coach one day, but to say he has an easy job is furthest from the truth.Comment

you 2 gotta be bullshitting just to bullshit. Your level of depth into the support/defense of Urban Meyer's decision and how much we (i.e. the general population) should give a shit, is becoming laughable.
But for the record...sure, many people take a leave of absence for health reasons. But I guarantee 9 out of 10 who walk in and say "my job is causing too much stress, I'm taking a leave of absence "(BTW, that means NOT using your accrued leave) are told that is fine. But don't plan on coming back to your job when you are done with your "leave of absence due to the stress of that job." Why? Because that is called.....part of a job. Responsibility, work, exerting effort, handling stress, performing, etc.
What I am getting at is, this doesn't exist in Urban's world. He has a boatload of cash to fall back on. The general population doesn't. Most states are an "at will" work state, you can come and go as you please. But it doesn't mean you have money to do it. Urban was paid a ton of money to coach a team, and stepping down for a little while means absolutely nothing to his livelihood. To someone in the general public, they can't, because they don't have a few million in their savings/401k.Last edited by f16harm; 12-27-2009, 11:05 PM.Comment

...
Meyer was the head coach at Bowling Green (who he quickly turned around in what is known as one of the greatest turnarounds in NCAA history), Utah (which he took to an undefeated season and made relevant in BCS talk and won a BCS bowl with), and Florida (who he won two national championships with). 95-18; 5-1 in bowl games. Never registered a season with more than four losses. All in this decade.
Saban coached two BCS teams, won two national championships at LSU, maybe a third at Alabama. Has had up and down seasons. 80-24; 4-2 in bowl games.
In the 00's, Meyer > > > Saban

I know no one in the real world who does the same.
Admittedly, guys like Meyer get paid well for that work ... but 18 hours is 18 hours.
I am not for a second saying a football coach is more important than a doctor, but to completely dismiss the amount of work they put in is ridiculous.

**5-Star Coach Wavering? (9:10pm update)**
New Orleans - Following an official visit to his team's practice this morning, sources close to 5-star Urban Meyer(UF) say the 45-year old head coach's recruitment is still wide open. Although he may likely end up with "His Family", Meyer won't rule out other options just yet.
Don't be surprised if Urban commits to either "Jeremy Foley" or "A Big Pile of Cash" on signing day. Fans of "Listening to Your Body" are disappointed that Meyer has all but ruled out that option. After being denied an in-bedroom visit from her husband last night, Meyer's wife is worried that Foley and The Cash Pile made up considerable ground in the past 24 hours. However, Meyer remains a soft verbal commitment to "His Family".

If Charlie Weis' fat ass can put in 20 hour days under the stress that is involved with being the head coach at Notre Dame and not have heart issues then Meyer doesn't have a leg to stand on.
