Looks like Peter King agrees with me verbatim on Manning's performance yesterday but he thinks he has the MVP race in the bag. Who knows though, Rivers might have enough momentum to overtake him by the time ballots are due early next week.

      MVP Watch
      1. Peyton Manning, QB, Indianapolis. Manning was pedestrian Sunday, but he probably can't sit enough to lose his fourth MVP to Rivers.

      2. Philip Rivers, QB, San Diego. In the Chargers' 10-game winning streak, Rivers has 20 TDs, six picks, six games with a rating over 100 and zero games with a completion percentage under 60. There's no denying it now -- Rivers is playing the best football of any quarterback drafted in the past six years.

      3. (tie) Drew Brees, QB, New Orleans. Something is going wrong here. Normally, I'd say a 32-of-37 game would be cause for celebration and a leap up high into the MVP standings here. But this was a dink-and-dunk 32-of-37, producing only 17 points.

      3. (tie) Brett Favre, QB, Minnesota. He and Brees have impossible roads to the MVP, barring something very strange happening.

      5. Darrelle Revis, CB, New York Jets. In 35 minutes, his man in Indy, Reggie Wayne, had three catches for 33 yards and no TDs. The strong streak of good play continues.

That qualifies as an excuse. The Dolphins (twice), Bills, Falcons, Jaguars, Saints and Patriots all found ways to beat the vaunted Jets defense. Does that mean those teams are better than the Colts? Of course not, but it means the Colts laid an egg at home.

It's amazing how you keep ignoring obvious things like the Colts pulling their starters being the main reason they lost that game. The Colts don't need an excuse for losing because they decided to treat that game like it was preseason.

Also Peter King is an idiot but I do agree that Rivers is #2.

Was pulling the starters the main reason for the loss or did the Colts just come out flat? Peyton could have just as easily been sacked and coughed up the fumble for the TD by the #1 ranked Jets defense. It's not like the Colts were doing themselves any favors before pulling Manning and some of the other starters. Looking at the stat line, it is obvious that Manning was having his worst game of the year before being pulled halfway through the 3rd quarter.

Peter King may be an idiot in your opinion but he is an idiot with an MVP vote.

Manning does a hell of a lot more then just throw the ball for the Colts. Calling audibles, looking over previous drive pictures on the sidelines to see what the defense is doing, you name it he does it for us. The fact that the Jets didn't have an offensive touchdown until the starters were pulled kinda shows that yeah we lost because players were sat down.

You can deny it all you want about whatever reason Peyton shouldn't be the MVP but just because in your opinion he has one bad game that doesn't take away from what hes already done.

We came out fine . Missed some chances on O yet still moved the ball when we needed too and they were doing nothing on our starting D . We then pull the starters on both sides of the ball and it all goes to shit . Manning couldn't "just as easily get sacked and fumbled" . Nobody gets the ball out quicker than Manning and he wouldn't have froze at the top of his drop like the dumbass Painter is . Hey Curtis , you can step up you know . Maybe Manning would have thrown 4 picks in the 4th qtr? Maybe Brett Favre will throw 50tds tonight , maybe Chris Johnson will fumble 25times in his next game. It's all could haves because he wasn't on the feild .... he can't be punished for things that happened when he was on the sideline

And saying the Jets have the number 1 ranked D isin't an excuse . It's a counter argument to some idiot sitting there going "HAHAHAHA MANNING STRUGGLED V A BELOW .500 TEAM HAHAHAHA" . He doesn't get to play Mark Sanchez , he only plays the Jets D . Who are the finest pass D in the NFL today .

Yeah....I'm not sure that any other QB in the league is calling audibles or looking at defensive alignment pictures on the sidelines when his defense in on the field :D

Yeah you're right Manning could just as easily have stared down his first read, held the ball way too long and got stripped sacked. Nevermind that:

-The Colts had the longest pass streak without a sack until Painter got hit.
-Mannings only been sacked 10 times this year (leads league for starters)
-Manning hasn't lost a fumble this entire year.

                      :vogel:

And it's ridiculous to assert that Manning was having his worst game of the season. That was probably the Denver game where he completed less than half his passes and threw 3 INTs. He's had 6 games this year where he's posted a worse QB rating than he had yesterday. Stop reading boxscores.

The Jets game made his case stronger. It shouldn't even be an. Open discussion. He's reached Jordan status and should probly win it every year.

Brees doing what Brees does come important december games should eliminate everyones favorite september qb.

My point was that in all the games I watch I don't see any other quarterback do what Manning does at the line of scrimmage.

first things first...wayne- 3rec, 33yds...add him to the mantle ...just an overall awesome season for Revis of holding his opposing WR WAY below their norms.

2nd, coming into this game, I figured Manning would be able to move the ball against the Jets...Manning is one of only few who can find the open man more times than not. Wayne certainly didn't have to be part of the gameplan when you have Collie/Clark/etc doing nice work...because the Jets 3rd and 4th CB's ok.

It would come down to if the Jets could hold the Colts to FG's...and they did...which is pretty much what they've been doing all season...I believe they have the best red zone defense as well.

Overall in the MVP discussion, this should have solidified it. Manning willed his team down the field after that Smith KR. After he came out, the whole offense went to shit...hell the whole team went to shit.

I'd thank you, but the bolded part is holding me from doing so. First, Wayne didn't play the full game so who knows what he would have done if he went 100% instead of 60%. Second, the game told a different story than the statistics. If Peyton doesn't miss Wayne by just a bit on two passes, his stat line would be 5 rec, 70+ yards, 1 TD. Wayne was burning Revis when he was in the game. If anything, Peyton did a better job of holding Wayne from his norm than Revis did.
