Competition Committee will look at playoff teams resting starters

LOL, what does the league think it can do to stop teams from putting in the backups? What a joke.

exactly, lol @ anyone telling a nfl owner that he can't bench his 100 million dollar investment for a worthless game.

maybe they should force every nfl team to play the starters in preseason?

i don't get the whole resting thing.

like they mention in the article about the giants and patriots.....where did both teams end up? the superbowl.

the colts usually rest...and usually fail to make the superbowl.

#1 seeds in this decade have just ONE title.

clearly resting out the stretch isn't paying off into championships.

How are they going to do this at all?

Colts had 24 players on the injury report coming into last week . What is to stop the Colts from benching them all (before the game) and just saying "prove that they aren't hurt" . What is to stop players from coming out midway with an "Injury" . Are they going to need people to decide if it's enough to come out? How can they even possibly regulate any of this?

The NFL can do whatever the fuck it wants.
I highly doubt NFL owners will allow this to happen, as its just limiting their power.

Those teams didnt have perfect records, they had the opportunity to making resting starters a moot point.

Fans should want the team to do the best they can, and win the Superbowl. Eliminating the VERY CHANCE of having a 100 million dollar player get hurt is worth 2 meaningless games.

The money these players get payed, they better be playing in the big games and not 2 worthless games.

Maybe if Miami doesnt fall behind by 27 on their home field last week or lose in OT the week before.. or get killed by the Bills... then they wouldn't need the help to get in the playoffs.

Agreed. My opinion, teams that rest their starters during the last week or two of the season are only hurting themselves. If a player is hurt or has a nagging injury, rest him. But to rest all starters does nothing but hurt a team's chance of success in the playoffs. You'd think the Colts would have learned this lesson by now.

I don't have a problem with the NFL wanting the starters to play every week, but the minute the argument brings another team who's crying because their 9-7 record doesn't get them in is laughable.

Winning their fucking games, as you said could not even matter because a team that rested healthy players, while being undefeated lost. I don't care what you say about resting your players, but when you're undefeated no team wants to lose that first game and it should never come down to a back-up when there is nothing wrong with your starting team.

Yeah teams rest their players, it happens every year. I mean teams do it when they're 12-3 or 13-2, but why in the world would you rest players when you have a chance at football record books? Just not my style.

That's true, a team probably shouldn't have a shot when they lose like that. Just like the Steelers probably shouldn't have a shot to get in with losses to the Raiders or the Chiefs, or the Browns. But they should have an opportunity to at least play for it instead of basically receiving a free pass like the Jets were. The Jets blew a 4th Quarter lead to the Falcons two weeks ago, but they were right back into the picture because the Colts laid down.. How is that fair to the rest of the league?

They should investigate why teams like the Phins suck every year.
