    Jim Leavitt Fired at USF...

Leavitt and his assistant were pulled away from their recruiting efforts this morning and summoned to President Judy Genshaft's office. Genshaft informed Leavitt and his staff that they will not be back for the 2010 season.

Names to consider for a replacement include: Tommy Tuberville, Terry Bowden, Philip Fulmer, etc.

Wow, that's really odd... is it because of the alleged hitting of one of the players? Results-wise he was doing well and he WAS that program.

Funny because I remember him turning down a ton of huge promotions (Bama, Miami) to stay at USF.

Not just for striking Joel Miller, but, for retaliating against someone he THOUGHT went to the press about him hitting Joel Miller. After the International Bowl win, Senior Colby Erskin returned to the team facility to find his locker cleaned out. Erskin found out that Leavitt threw all of Erskin's personal effects in the garbage because he told others on the staff that he believed Erskin was the one who "snitched" about the Miller incident.

Why is it called South Florida when the campus is in Tampa?

USF was founded in 1956. However, the university was not officially named until the following year, and courses did not start until 1960. Some of the original proposed names included "Citrus State University", "Sunshine State University," "The University of the Western Hemisphere," and "The University of Florida at Temple Terrace." It was built on the site of Henderson Air Field, a World War II airstrip. Although located in west-central Florida, at the time of establishment USF was the southernmost public university in the State of Florida, a geographic situation that lent USF its sometimes confusing name.

I think I might have to get a chise going on VSN.

                Allegedly...
Erskin had an ax to grind with CJL. The kid goes on radio and gives his "side" of the story. A story that he did not even see first hand.

It's a very weird situation, where nothing has been substantiated. Miller and his dad have said that the incident has been blown out of proportion, players that were actually in the locker room say that he got in the kid's face but didn't strike him or do anything that crossed the line. However, if you ask me. Leavitt's temper and demonstrative attitude screams grabbing kids by the pads and slapping them around. After all this is the same guy not 2 months ago that came out of the locker room with a bloody face after he head butted a player's helmet.

I'm fine with the firing, IMO it was time for a change. He had taken USF as far as he could. The passion, fire, and lunch pail stuff can only get you so far. The guy double as a special teams coach, the same special teams that failed them countless times... The recruits are there and prime for the picking. USF needs a true football mind, an intuitive offensive or defensive coach that can put his staple on the program and take those Florida recruits and actually coach them up to their potential. I just hope they get a proven guy or a promising up and comer, nothing cheap.

So much for USF joining the Big 3 in Florida.

I linked some documents for you all to look over. I suggest those of you who think the player(s) in question are being "babies" read through this. The second link is a open letter from university President Judy Genshaft to the USF community and alumni.

State university employee accused of assaulting a student? Other employees complicit in the act?

As a former USF student, im glad Jim Leavitt is gone but didnt want him gone in this kind of way. The Bulls need a coach that can take this team to the next level. yeah im thankful for Leavitt for placing USF on the map and building it from nothing but its time someone steps in there and turns this team into a Big East title contender.

But all in all i hope Leavitt lands somewhere else and the Bulls land a coach that can raise the bar a bit down in Tampa.

As a USF alumnus myself I am also happy Leavitt is gone. I usually defended the guy, but, this was the third year in a row that the team has tanked it after a 5-0 start. Quite frankly, I wanted him fired for lack of progress. However, I will take his firing for cause based off of a disciplinary matter...which IMVHO was also justified. It's one thing to motivate, it's another to bully. Read the report, it's clear Leavitt was a tyrant for some time.

Quick correction, I guess the staff was pulled into the office to be let known of the situation. It will be up to the new head coach to keep the staff on-board or to let them go.

Right now, the Interim head coach running the football operations is former Duke head coach Carl Franks.

Oh, that's cool...because Duke has been a real powerhouse over the years. Good times ahead!
