Jets coach Rex Ryan didn't hide his disappointment upon learning that cornerback Darrelle Revis was beaten out for the NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award by Packers cornerback Charles Woodson.

Woodson earned 28 votes compared to 14 for Revis, who said Ryan was so irked that he was cussing while delivering the news to him.
Jets practice in preparation of their divisional playoff game against the Chargers. "I wasn't going to comment on it," Ryan said, "but I would like to congratulate the people that voted for Darrelle Revis. These guys obviously really know the game. And you've got to look at all the numbers, not just a number about this, or this stat or that stat.

"A number I think is interesting would be eight. And no, that's not the amount of touchdown passes Green Bay gave up against Arizona. That is the number of touchdown passes we gave up all season. And the biggest reason for that is Darrelle Revis.

"There's plenty of things to look at. We had the No. 1 defense in the National Football League, by 35 yards a game. We were No. 1 in scoring ... basically 187 points is all the defense gave up all season. That might be a consideration for NFL Defensive Player of the Year.

"And it really was for the people that voted for Darrelle Revis. I tip my hat to them because they really know the game. That's all I'm going to say about it."

"Revis is going for different hardware right now, so we'll see," Ryan continued. "We'll feel a lot better if we can put a ring on our fingers.You can't get a higher individual award than that award, and it's unfortunate. Hopefully, he's a young, talented player, but you can't take anything for granted.

"For me, this is the best year a corner has ever had, the most impact a corner has ever had in the National Football League. That's my opinion. But apparently that wasn't the opinion of everybody who voted."

Woodson had more interceptions (9 to 6), fumbles forced (4 to 0), tackles (74 to 54) and touchdowns (3 to 1) than Revis. The Jets, however, were the best defensive club during the regular season and boasted the league's top pass defense, due in large part to Revis.

Said Revis: "That's good for him. I actually voted for him. It (winning that award) wasn't on my list of goals. You just try to play the best you can. Just like (Ryan) said, the guys who know real football, they know the type of season I had."

I didn't say anything about Revis. He had an excellent season. He is hands down the best cover corner in the NFL. There's no disputing that. He keeps it up next year and he'll win the award because there's no way Woodson has a season like this again. He's 33.

Rex Ryan is right up there with Bilichick (sp?) IMO as the douchiest coaches in the NFL. I like the Jets, but I can't help but root against them in the playoffs after him declaring his team the favorite to win the Superbowl so I can watch him eat shit at the podium after the game.

I disagree that Revis should have got it but he was more than worthy. Like I said in the other thread I honestly would have been fine with a split if thats possible, both guys were worthy of it. Revis is absolutely amazing. I totally agree that it should have been closer than 28-14.
