I think ND is an elite program, but much of that has to do with the media and mainstream America's fascination with the program. I've always seen ND being bigger than just a university, but also being a cultural icon. However, in certain parts of the country ND is not a real option, and thus just another lackluster football program.Last edited by ralaw; 01-13-2010, 03:37 PM.Comment

Nate Montana transferred back in, Tommy Rees early enrolled last week and Crist is ahead of schedule on his ACL recovery so ND is sitting pretty ok at QB right now.
Plus Stewart and Wenger are back for 5th years on the OL so the OL won't be taking as much of a hit as previously thought.....I'd still love to land Sentrel Henderson though.....Comment

Obviously...
But people were worried about John Goodman having to take reps at QB in the spring where as now that looks to be less and less the case and ND has some depth at QB. Plus who the hell heard of Tony Pike before Kelly got a hold of him. Pike is obviously more the exception than the rule but I'm not going to discount lower guys on the depth chart just for the hell of it. That being said I don't think Montana ever takes a snap as QB at Notre Dame.Comment

If Chow does wind up at USC.. Matt Barkley is going to be a star
As for Kiffin, yeah he's a douchebag but how could you turn down this job? I doubt he foresaw Carroll leaving to the NFL.. and USC was more than likely his dream job. Kiffin should thank Del Rio though because he's really the only reason Kiffin even got this gig.
But wow, USC's staff is going to be loaded if they land Chow.Originally posted by ram29jacksonI already said months ago that Seattle wasn't winning any SBComment

Save it.
Big time programs do not have the rap sheet Meyer's guys have at UF. Most aren't even close.
Meyer's guys get in toruble for assault, theft, etc. On teh flip side Notre Dame's biggest controversey since Weis showed up was Clausen getting busted for buying booze at 19.
*EDIT* My mistake Darrell Hand propositioned a prostitute and Weis suspened him 3 games.
Find me a "big time program" with a rap sheet like this then we can talk.
There's also a right and wrong way todo things...Meyer has the rep for being way less than truthful.
And as for all that NCAA shit, you need to take some things in life with a grain of salt. Do you really think that Tim Tebow called some random kid from the Heisman ceremony to convince him to come to UF? "Hey, bud...if you come to UF you can be just like me!"
Get real.
I'm not saying that Meyer's untouchable, I'm simply saying that none of those kids are playing at UF right now. And sour grapes are sour.Comment

Meyer is a slimeball. Deal with it. If a phone call after the Heisman ceremony that violates NCAA rules is the smallest thing you can pick on it should tell you about the larger issues with the guy.
Sour grapes? Ha. I didn't want Meyer anywhere near Notre Dame when Weis got canned and I openly said that here. I didn't know enough about him back in 2004 when Willingham was let go, and frankly didn't care about him not taking the job because of that fact. I was pumped when Weis came to ND. I really don't care, and never have, that Meyer didn't choose to come here.Comment

I believe (I may be wrong) Riley's "sour grapes" comment had more to do with the recruits that are no longer on the team. Basically, while being recruited and being on the team everything thing is fine, but as soon as they're released from the scholarships they're crying about how thing went down.
Plus none of thoe guys on the rap sheet have any right to cry about how things went down. They were busted by the police. The point of bringing those guys up was to show the type of player Meyer brought in to begin with, not to show that they whined about Meyer after getting let go for wielding an AK47.Comment

What would that have to do with players that end up going to other schools, that chose to, when they weren't released from scholarships by Florida telling stories about Meyer undercutting them when they didn't choose Florida?

If they have the talent and can qualify I think most coaches take risk on questionable character guys. I don’t have a problem with that, because college football is full of guys who once being removed from situations have changed for the better. However, oftentimes that is overlooked by the media and public. I know for a fact that Meyer has what is pretty much a honor system built in to his program that rewards guys for various activities on and off the field, so he is doing something right. As I mentioned earlier the business of recruiting is pretty sleazy, people do underhanded things and people get their feelings hurt, but this is part of the process.Comment

Notre Dame will likely remain irrelevant notwithstanding their NBC contract.
As for Notre Dame being "irrelevant", I find it odd that they are so "irrelevant" yet the Weis firing and the Kelly hire was leading news nationally for nearly 2 months. Yeah, noone cares about Notre Dame.........Comment
