San Diego also rested players. Oh wait...they always suck. lol.
Is the "rest vs rust" argument settled?

The rest actually helped us we finally after about 2 months got everyone on D back. Except charles grant but he is fat and overrated. -
It's bullshit.
So is regular season momentum. Chargers and the Cowboys were the hottest teams in the league and they both looked like shit today.
It's all nonsense.Comment

It's stupid to make a bunch of reactionary judgements.
The Colts resting their players did hurt them in the past. Note that this year Indy completely switched up their game preparation leading up the Ravens game under a new coaching regime. Even though Indy still did some soft things (not pursuing 16-0) they lost a few soft things too (Ron Meeks and Dungy)
It was still dumb for Indy to yank starters, especially the way they handled it leading up to the Jets game and during the Bills game. They should've just knocked the Jets off in week 16, kill a team when you have a chance to.Comment

its not a trend its not a real argument its some shit for michael strahan and boomer esiason and jimmy johnson to talk about on a pregame show. sometimes a team comes in super hot and meets a team that isn't and they steamroll them. and sometimes the quality teams stand tall, as they did today (in places other than san diego). I slept through most of the playoff games this weekend because they were such a quality exhibition of a quality team sitting an overrated one the fuck down.
as ive said a billion times its football, not baseball, statistics and trends and arguments are fun stuff to talk about, but the arent reality, on any given sunday, anything can happen, thats not cliche, thats the NFL, thats why it makes as much money as it does.Comment

Just admit you are wrong.
It comes down to execution on that given day and that's it.
The Cowboys/Chargers lost because they got outplayed. Has nothing to do with how hot a team is or if they rested their players for one fucking game in the regular season.
By the way, blaming the Colts past losses for resting their players is a stupid reactionary judgment.Comment

Lol I guess the rust vs rest argument is completely settled when Indy wins one game :vogel:Last edited by Bear Pand; 01-17-2010, 09:33 PM.Comment

Wrong about what? About Indy taking the soft approach unnecessarily? It's not reactionary when it's based on years of watching the Colts. I don't give a fuck what happened to the Chargers or Cowboys like I told you in the first thread about this those are different organizations.

It's one game on one day and that's it. The rest is bullshit. Doesn't matter how many games the Chargers won in a row before the playoffs and it doesn't matter how many games the Colts or Saints lost in a row before the playoffs.
Doesn't matter that the Jets barely made the playoffs.
It all comes down to that game and that game alone. What happened before that game is irrelevant.Comment

You're not getting it. There is no rest vs. rust argument. It's all bullshit.

They didn't enter the playoffs with a long win streak or anything and they backed their way in. They looked like dog shit at the end of the year. But they were forced to play hard till the end of the season and kept their edge. It's not a coincidence. It didn't help that Dungy would basically let the team slack off during bye weeks either.
I'm not saying being rusty is the #1 reason for the Colt's lack of success but Polians philosophy is soft and flawed.Last edited by Bear Pand; 01-17-2010, 09:44 PM.Comment

Nah you don't get it, polian = famous for playoff failures. With the Bills and the Colts. The one year he was forced to abandon his philosophy with Indy they won a SB.

They won the Super Bowl that year because they turned it on in the playoffs - one game at a time. They erased the memory of their shitty performances during the regular season and understood that it's a 1 game season. If you want to chalk it up to "backing their way into the playoffs and playing hard till the end of the year" then obviously you can. Agree to disagree.Comment

Caldwell made them go 1s v 1s most of the week and asked them to practice hard instead of going the Dungy approach and thinking Bye weeks are for rest and not to work on anything . I don't think rust is such a big factor in our losses but it never helps to change things up if it's not working [which it wasn't] . Props to Caldwell for seeing where Dungy went wrongComment
