    Exactly.

Also, about that whole text and will deal with the problem.. I saw a segment on Outside the Lines about how Auburn uses the 'texting' feature. Well they would get a text, binocular over to the specific section, then send security. In theory it sounds like a great system, I feel like it may get abused by many sensitive fans. For example, I should be able to give the occasionally middle finger or "Fuck you Jacobs" without having the security come over because some sensitive family is all butthurt.

The cops had no business getting on the dude unless he physically did something.. I dont see any reason for a Chargers fan to support an obnoxious Jets fan if he physically harmed another Chargers fan. Cops are sometimes just assholes, and probably big Chargers fans, too. Prime opportunity for abuse of power probably just because someone got under your skin. Freedom of speech fail.
lol read the fucking video description, it happened in the 3rd quarter while the Chargers were winning. Some of you just see what you want and ignore everything else.

3 years ago I had a friend (read: guy I knew who had an open tab that night) get hauled off in a paddy wagon for Who Dat'ing too aggressively outside the bar. It was the night before the NFC CG vs. Chicago and he was jumping on people's backs and shit as everyone's leaving at closing time.

Dumbest thing you could possibly get arrested for right there, Who Dat'ing.

I'm not "defending" the police. I'm simply saying it's clear we are missing a very important part of the story so jumping on either bandwagon is wrong. Most of the posts in this thread were jumping all over the cops so I responded to those(Maybe some people did and I missed it?). If someone had come in here and said the fan was a jack ass and deserved it I'd tell them the same thing. The cops could very well be in the wrong, but the fan could be too.

Do we even know for sure if he got arrested?(I didn't hear an announcement of an arrest or any rights being read) Putting someone in cuffs isn't technically arresting them. They could have easily been doing it just to detain him or control him if he was acting unruly.

I'm not assuming anything with this video because it was obviously edited. I'm not going to assume the cops are right or wrong. I'm not going to assume the guy did anything right or wrong and I'm not going to assume he got arrested.

I just think it's hilarious that the moment somebody gets arrested, it's always the police's fault. It's awesome that nobody has to take responsibility for their actions. "Oh, yea the weed was sitting on my dashboard but the fucking pig shouldn't have been looking there in the first place."

Well, the official story came about.

MISSION VALLEY — William Carroll’s arrest at Sunday’s Chargers game is a five-star YouTube hit.

The videotaped arrest of the enthusiastic — and allegedly inebriated — New York Jets fan at Qualcomm Stadium has football fans howling in cyber protest.

The video, which also was posted on news sites and blogs, was accompanied by headlines such as “Jets fan arrested for liking Jets too much” and “San Diego cops arrest Jets fan for cheering his team.”

The New York Post wrote: “Jets fan arrested in San Diego for no apparent reason.”

San Diego police beg to differ. Assistant Chief Bob Kanaski said Carroll was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication and delaying or obstructing a police officer in his duties.

“It had nothing to do with cheering, it had to do with the behavior not seen on the film,” Kanaski said yesterday.

The 3½-minute video shows a man in a green Jets shirt, identified by police as Carroll, 43, a Southern California resident, chanting “Jets, Jets, Jets” with upraised arms facing the crowd in the stands. About 12 seconds into the video, edited footage jumps to four police officers surrounding Carroll, trying to handcuff him as he struggles. This is punctuated by shouts of “Attica” and boos from the crowd. One man repeatedly yells: “He didn’t do anything.”

After a little more than two minutes, Carroll is finally handcuffed and carried out in a prone position. There is a smattering of applause while others continue to heckle the officers.

Kanaski, who heads the department’s special operation unit, said Carroll was booked into County Jail on the two misdemeanor charges.

He said officers went to talk to Carroll after being notified via text message from an off-duty police officer at the game who said the Jets fan was intoxicated and out of control.

A sergeant asked Carroll three times to accompany him out of the stands but he refused. Kanaski said at one point Carroll tried to head-butt one of the officers. When the fan balled his fists and took a stance, the sergeant began to handcuff him, Kanaski said. That is where the video picks up again.

“The guy was obviously drunk and causing difficulty in the section,” Kanaski said.

Of the 69,000 people at the game, 49 arrests were made, and 43 of those involved being drunk in public. Others were arrested on charges such as petty theft, grand theft and battery, Kanaski said. Thirty-three were ejected for rowdy behavior. Police also issued several citations.

Most of those arrested were Chargers fans, although Kanaski said he did see a few green jerseys at the prisoner processing area at the stadium.

The notion that officers were simply picking on one of them is “far from the truth,” Kanaski said.

Of course, obviously the police were looking for trouble by following a lead from a fellow officer. /sarcasm

Please continue with the "fuck the police" "all police officers are douchebags" "fucking pigs" comments as they were all obviously warranted.

LOL @ you acting like this is a police report or that the guy is automatically guilty because of those little blurbs from cop statements.

I'm not saying that the story isn't correct, but don't just assume that the cops were telling the truth. They can make up whatever the hell they want to say and most likely will because there probably won't be anybody from the game testifying against them.

If they had a couple fans from the game testify against the cops then all the charges would probably get dropped.

If you don't understand that it is the public's responsibility to question the police and hold them to higher standards and expectations then you don't understand how the relationship between the police and the general public works.

This is the way its been since law enforcements inception, and this is the way it will be forever.

Now more than ever because incarceration rats continue to grow, having nearly doubled over the last 2 decades.

The crime rates are the same, but the prison populations have doubled and even tripled in some areas.

                  Tell me why.

So which one has more credibility?

                    A) An edited video that alleges a fan was arrested for cheering for the Jets, but fails to offer any real proof.

                    B) Statements from the police who were involved.

This video is the perfect storm, combine cleverly edited footage and an emotional hook (people generally dislike cops) and you can brew up a ton of controversy. He wasn't the only fan to get arrested for charges including public intoxication that day. 43 people were, and I doubt all 43 were Jets fans.

I don't like cops, but if people cry wolf every time something happens, it damages the credibility of legitimate complaints against police. Until some actual evidence comes up that shows the cops were in the wrong this is not a legitimate complaint, it's just a youtube video that doesn't tell the full story.

Yea, that's fine, question the police. But last time I checked, making statements like "fuck the police" "fucking pigs" and "all police officers are douchebags" is not 'questioning the police.' That's downright disrespectful to a group of people who put their life on the line every single day to make sure you are safe.

You seriously don't understand the concept of population growth? Yea, sure the crime rate is the same, but the number of people committing crimes has increased because our population has increased. This then leads to more people in prison/jail.

As pointed out in that article, 49 people were arrested during the game Sunday. According to police, most were chargers fans. Yea, the police were really just singling out the Jets fans and throwing them out of the stadium.

I'm more inclined to believe what a police officer says over an intoxicated fan. You really think an officer is going to risk his job just to throw somebody out of a football game?
