(From Deadspin) Peter King Gets to The Core of the Gaines Adams Tragedy

Peter King, ladies and gents, one of the all time biggest d-bags in journalism history.

    6. I think one of the sad football things about the death of Gaines Adams, the Tampa Bay-turned-Chicago defensive end who died Sunday of cardiac arrest at 26, is that he was about to be coached into his potential by Rod Marinelli, who believed in him like no other coach he'd had in the NFL. Everyone associated with the Bears had no regrets over trading the second-round pick to Tampa Bay for him, even though it left the Bears without a pick in the first two rounds, because they believed that he'd become a good pass-rusher. Just a sad, sad story.

Right, Peter, that's the real tragedy here.

Do you mean of the Gaines Adams tradgedy? Also, that's messed up that he's talking about that, but still it should be mentioned anyhow.

Yeah, I meant Gaines Adams...my bad if a mod could change it it'd be great. But the fact that he's even mentioning his "potential" the day after he died, is just stupid and pointless.

And how he says " one of the bigger football tragedies about this story" like there are levels of tragedy that trump dying....

Sounds like an asshole, but I see what he means.

Gaines had the potential to be a great player and he died.

yeah, does sound like a stupid thing to say

I am glad he can make light of the situation. I am sure Adams' family is doing the same. Asshole.

My favorite comment from deadspin was:

Yeah, and the biggest musical tragedy to come out of this Haiti disaster, is that the Fugees reunion album is now getting pushed back
Deadspin commenters always bring the lulz. But seriously Peter King, why not just call it a tragedy and leave it at that?

"One of the bad FOOTBALL things...."

                You guys miss something?

One of the sad things related to football, not in general. It could be labeled tragic to miss out on a great player (which he's suggesting).

I don't see him being an asshole.

You are overreacting. Trying too hard to get mad at Peter King. Even if it does sound like an asshole thing to say, I don't think that's what Peter King was trying to do at all. He was just bringing up another sad part to the death of Adams. Probably could have said it a little better to make himself more clear, forgive him and move on.

Ok, well I hate Peter King anyway. I'm not really mad at him, I just think he's a terrible columnist. This is just one more example of his uselessness.

Please, this happens anytime a young athlete dies. The media tries to mention something that was going to be a positive in their lives, and now that they passed away, this positive can be no more.

You gonna get on the writers who said it was tragic for the basketball player who died last week, that he left behind a new-born child and a fiance? Fucking stupid little kid should be happy it's alive. Because their dad isn't. Ungrateful fucking kid.

If you don't think it's a worthless and empty consolation, then oh well. But to me, who is new DL coach would have been is the last thing I would've brought up at the time.

And you're comparison is beyond retarded. Big difference from reporting surviving family of the deceased (like every other obit ever has done) and mentioning a meaningless Xs and Os tidbit just to prove you're an "insider" or "expert".

It's not a huge deal, just something that is pointless to even mention.

I think Peter King is a bit of a blow hard too, but didn't see his statement as being anything bad.
