Chan Gailey likely to be the Bills next Head Coach

The Buffalo Bills head coaching search has taken quite the unexpected and surprising turn.

The Buffalo Bills secretly interviewed long-time coach Chan Gailey last week and a source close to Gailey said the coach is slated to meet with owner Ralph Wilson and GM Buddy Nix sometime again Monday, FOXSports.com has learned. As long as talks don’t break down, Gailey is expected to be hired as the Bills head coach within the next 24-48 hours.

Gailey’s name had been kept tightly under wraps, it appears he has now jumped up as a possible favorite to land the open slot.

Gailey fits the exact bill for what the new GM Nix is looking for. The Bills were hoping to hire someone with head coaching experience and they wanted the candidate to have his expertise on the offensive side of the ball.

Gailey spent some time this season with the Kansas City Chiefs but had his duties removed from him prior to the start of the season. While he didn’t work out this past season in K.C., Gailey’s offenses have long been productive in places such as Denver, Dallas and Pittsburgh. He also spent time as the head coach at Georgia Tech.

Wow, what an awful hire. Leslie Fraizer should've been their next head coach, not Gailey.

It's baffling to me how guys like Gailey, Norv Turner, Wade Phillips, Dick Jauron, etc etc etc never win anything, have records around or well below .500, yet somehow find owners willing to hire them again & again & again.

Meanwhile, you have guys like Mike Martz, Jim Fassel, Brian Billick, etc who did nothing but win, and they struggle to even get interviews or assistant jobs. Mike Sherman was another guy, who won 10 games every year and went to the playoffs yearly with GB, and he ends up at Texas A&M because he cant get a pro interview.

      Makes no sense.

EDIT: I'm pretty sure Martz, Fassel, & Billick each have more playoff wins than all of those other stiffs combined.

I hope so but he has a better chance of winning a Grey Cup after we get contracted from the NFL and move to the CFL

If by Phillips you mean Wade then yes, he was with the Bills.

Wade Phillips coached his first NFL game in 1985, and won his first playoff game last week.

He's the prime example of a guy who hardly ever makes the playoffs, then goes nowhere when he does, yet manages to find jobs with his empty, nothing resume of mediocrity.

These guys get jobs because they're willing to put their heads down and take it like Vinsane. Owners these days want someone who won't be an issue

I'm really interested to see who fills in as the DC. I hope Gailey does get the job though.
