McNabb: 'I want to retire as an Eagles'

"I want to retire as an Eagle," Donovan McNabb said in Tampa on Friday.

The grumblings reached a crescendo when he was benched in Week 12.

They picked up again this week in Tampa but came with a twist as Donovan McNabb made the rounds at the Super Bowl XLIII media center.

"I want to retire as an Eagle," McNabb said.

McNabb, benched at halftime Thanksgiving week as the Philadelphia Eagles were routed by the Baltimore Ravens, had said he would seek a place at the table -- when the season was over -- with coach Andy Reid and team president Joe Banner to discuss his future with the team.

But the Eagles picked themselves up and advanced to the NFC Championship Game.

And McNabb was widely praised for saving another questionable season in which Philadelphia finished 9-6-1 and was forced to wait for final game of the season for a playoff berth.

Speaking to reporters Friday, a joyful McNabb reiterated he wanted to broach the subject of his contract with the Eagles during this offseason. But he also said he wished to remain in Philly for the rest of his career.

McNabb, set to make $9.2 million next season and $10 million in the final year of his contract, also wants to get "things solved."

    “

I want things to get taken care of, and then I won't have to answer whether I'll be back the next year.
    ” -- Donovan McNabb

"The contract deals with a lot of different things, and I'll kind of leave it at that," McNabb said. "I want things to get taken care of, and then I won't have to answer whether I'll be back the next year.

"I've had to answer 20 weeks this year about coming back and last year as well. It's tiresome, but I'd rather have people asking me every year than be somewhere else. I want to be in Philly."

McNabb had one of his best seasons in 2008, throwing for a career-high 3,916 yards and 23 touchdowns with 11 interceptions.

In the NFC title game, McNabb led the Eagles in overcoming a second-half rally from 18 points down to take a 25-24 lead.

But after an Arizona Cardinals touchdown, he missed on four passes from midfield, and the game ended.

McNabb said Friday the Eagles needed to restock their roster with upgrades in mind.

"Are we going to talk about that now?" McNabb replied, after a reporter brought it up. "Yeah, we do need more weapons, on both sides, all phases of the game."

The fans wont appreciate him until he is gone and then they will realize all that he did for him.

They will boo you when you play like he did vs. Ravens and Bengals. Then again when you don't win a superbowl with so many opportunities. I don't think McNabb would leave because of the fans at all. Then they will boo when the Eagles fuck up with time management late in games and late in the second quarter like the Eagles have so many times before. Sometimes Eagles fans can be dumb (when McNabb threw his first incomplete pass vs. Cardinals on thanksgiving night lol). But if the Eagles and McNabb play to their potential then they won't boo. I don't understand how McNabb "Has to put up with those fans every week." If he plays like he did the final 8 games then that will shut him up like it did. I live right in the southeast pennsylvania region so i watch about every eagles game and a lot of local Eagles shows.

Half my family are die hard eagle fans and live in PA. This happens every year. They dont win the superbowl and the fans want him out. Well they wont have a shot at the superbowl unless he is their QB or they somehow get another elite NFL QB(which more then likely wont happen).

I wouldn't say a fan but seeing i live in that region and know so many Eagles fans and seeing the Raiders games are almost never broadcasted where i live i've watched pretty much every Eagles game since 2004.

When the Eagles drafted Kolb every Eagles fan booed the pick. Why because they know McNabb is their Quarterback and most fans want him to be. When Garcia filled in for McNabb and lead the Eagles to the playoffs most Eagles fans wanted McNabb out and Garcia to be their guy at quarterback for coming years. Garcia did something McNabb didn't do that year and hadn't done the previous year. Lead the Eagles to the playoffs. The way the Eagles fans are is a good thing because they want to win now and if your not doing that then something needs to be changed. Whether they need a new quarterback or head coach. But when the Eagles are winning it's all fine and dandy.

I agree with you about the win now part, but if they want to win now they need Mcnabb as their Quarterback when he is healthy, which this was his first year since 04 where I believe he seemed healthy.

give him a receiver that can catch the ball and they might win one.

You kidding me Avant catches everything thrown at him, He has the best hands on the team. DJack is a beast with incredible speed and a huge deep threat. Then Curtis who is speedy too and gets a lot of yards after the catch. lol.

They should go after boldin (My favorite receiver, He's a beast) or TJ Houshmandzadeh.
Eagles almost signed Randy Moss last year though.

In the NFC championship game look what happened. His throws were hitting his receivers in the hands all game they kept dropping them. Sure they might of been a lil off but when it hits any part of the receivers body they have to catch it.

No McNabb threw a lot of duck passes that game. The receivers caught almost everything thrown at them that game. You must not of watched it. The receivers weren't dropping passes all game.
