I like the idea of Martz because I love the results he gets out of teams. The only thing I'm worried about is that his style will be limited by our roster. Of course it's worth getting him, he's better than whatever clown college guy they have coming in next.

Detroit had a severly limited roster, too, but his offense helped them to 7 wins. I'm not saying 7 wins is all that impressive, but they sure haven't seen that since. They went 0-16 after the brilliant idea to fire the guy. If they promoted Martz to HC, the way they should have, Detroit doesn't touch that 0-16 record, in my opinion.

Mike Martz has been known to make the best out of bad situations - He was partly responsible for helping a grocery store clerk, become one of the best stories in recent memory... pretty damn good football player, too.

Does Chicago need to fill a few more spots, even with Martz? Of course.

You guys had the 17th ranked passing offense in the NFL, you can bet money you move into the top 10, easily, if Martz comes to town, even with a limited roster.

He inherited a much worse roster in SF, which if you recall had one of the worst offenses in modern NFL history in 2007.

He's drastically improved every offense he's touched, immediately.

If they make the hire, by week 4 the entire fan base will be split -- those who love him, and those who despise him. Despite producing more yards and more points, there are fans (and Tom Jackson) who get fixated on every turnover and the flawed idea of playcalling balance. Those same fans (and Tom Jackson) wont say a word about the 45/19 pass/run ratio when the Bears win 31-13, but its the first thing they'll bring up when they lose. He throws the ball alot, goes for the throat on every drive, and trades turnovers for points.

Why would Martz drop forte? He's a RB that can catch well out of the backfield, exactly what Martz likes

No. Lovie had control of the defense last year. They kept him on this year, and have taken away his DC duties. Lovie Smith was technically demoted from DC to Head Coach.

Plus, as I said at the end of the year (against firing Ron Turner) because you're going to be a lame duck OC. You get your year, Lovie gets fired, new guy comes in and brings in his own OC. The job sucks.

I hated Turner and didn't think he deserved to stay, but I argued there was no reason to get rid of him because nobody is going to want a 1-year lame duck job. There's absolutely ZERO job security in the Bears OC or DC jobs.

The Lions hardly had the most dominant pass blocking O-line when Martz was there and Kitna still managed to pass for 4,000 yards. And isin't a successful team/offense more important than wasting a tight end? Maybe I have this whole GM theory all wrong

I loled when I heard Cutler is involved in the interviewing process for a new O/C . For any people who live in the area or support the Bears ... is this true? And if so what exactly is the point in letting your QB who has been noted for slacking and ignoring coaches help decide the new O/C? I can't see good things coming from that

He's not "interviewing" the guys. The Bears bring him in to talk with some of the candidates to meet them etc. I guess he's part of the process but honestly with as little as the Bears have to build on and the strained relationship Cutler had with Turner and Pep Hamilton last year I think Lovie and JA know that getting a guy who can mesh well with Cutler is important. Their jobs depend on it.

Greg Olsen splits out just as much as he lines up at TE.

Forte is definitely as much as a receiver as he is a running back.
