Sorry but Pitt is better than most Big 10 schools academic wise.
I wouldn't say better, but definitely on par with them. Big Ten's academics are insane. According to US News & World Reports annual rankings, here are how the public universities match up...

    4. Michigan
    9T. Illinois
    9T. Wisconsin
    15. Penn State
    18. Ohio State
    20. Pitt
    22T. Purdue
    22T. Minnesota
    29T. Indiana
    29T. Michigan State
    29T. Iowa

Northwestern is ranked 13th overall in the nation, far above any of the public universities.

They're not stupid, Pitt has been raising Academic Admittance requirements drastically the past 5 years. After they lowered them in the 90's to fund construction projects, they are trying to get back to being a top level University that we were during the 60's and 70's. I mean, how many Big 10 schools can say they cured polio?

I have nothing to add right now except that the last time Ohio State played Pitt, we won 72-0 and David Boston returned a punt for a TD with only 7 blockers on the field.

          Your argument is invalid.

            Frankly though everything's all cylicial.

In the next 5 years when Tressel steps down, OSU will go through a down period and have to rebuild under new leadership.

If/when the RichRod experiment ends, Michigan will find a new coach and likely rise back up to the top in the conference (And there's also if RichRod has success too).

Penn State is a squad that competes for Big Ten titles when they have experience on the lines... so every 2 years pretty much they are going to be in the thick of the race (And they still are competing well without experience).

Meanwhile, beyond that you've got the next tier of teams in the B10. Wisconsin has been a team that almost since Alvarez was hired that has been very consistent. They'll be an 8-9 win program consisently and have a year or two where they rise up and win 10-11 games and compete for the conference title. The same could be said for Iowa, and Ferentz is one of the best line coaches in the country. Beyond that, there's usually another team (Illinois, Minny, Michigan State, etc.) that settles in and becomes a thorn in the rest of the B10's side.

If they do indeed come to the B10 I see Pitt developing right into the the second tier.. able to compete solidly when they don't have the experience, and then competing for the conference title when they have the right team.

Finally, a rational post that doesn't say Pitt will be 5-7 in the Big 10 every year.

Looks like Pitt is denying the story.

An official at the University of Pittsburgh is denying speculation that the school is set to leave the Big East and become the 12th school in the Big Ten.

Oh well, this thread brought the lulz a few times, so it was worth it.

It was sarcasm. Jesus how can you try to employ sarcasm when you miss it staring you blindly in the face?

Some people need the sarcasm tags.

                          6-6 is still respectable

Hmm, figured that Bowl games would better represent the "Cream" of all the conferences, rather then beating up on bottom feeders, no?

You should be careful with that joke, it's an antique.

No, sorry, but Pitt doesn't have the academic prestige of most Big10 institutions.
