    Jags Release Tory Holt

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Jaguars have released receiver Torry Holt, left tackle Tra Thomas and defensive tackle Rob Meier.

The moves had been expected because coach Jack Del Rio already told the three aging veterans they would not be part of the team's rebuilding process.

Holt, a seven-time Pro Bowl selection with St. Louis, caught 51 passes for 722 yards with the Jaguars last season. He has 920 career receptions for 13,382 yards and 74 touchdowns.

Thomas, a three-time Pro Bowler with Philadelphia, started three games for the Jaguars last season.

Meier, a 10-year veteran who spent last season on injured reserve, has 307 career tackles and ranks ninth in team history with 21 1/2 sacks.

Good... he was a non factor for us last season but did serve his purpose by tutoring the young guys.

Haha. Right? I don't think it really matters at this point... Time to retire.

          Good call.

I wouldn't expect him to do much at WR, but Martz would certainly welcome Holt's knowledge of the position, to help out whoever the Bears are going to start. Torry Holt can still play, he got open last year, but Garrard just missed him. He's just not the guy anymore.

I'm liking the call, though. :2thumbs:

I think your all missing out on the fact that Holt wants to play in Carolina, and they sure as hell could use a WR, old or young.

Holt is slower than something really slow, but I watched alot of Jags games early in the year when he was still getting playing time, and he still finds ways to get open. Jacksonville just happened to develop their WR's a little faster than everyone thought they would.

Holt can easily play 3 or 4 more years as a possession receiver, or even as a starter on a team with bad WR depth. He also brings a great attitude to the locker room and is a great mentor.

Holt can easily play 3 or 4 more years as the 4th receiver on a good team, win another ring, then retire

If the Jags had the option, I probably would have kept him.

Torry Holt/MSW/Mike Thomas made for a nice group of wide outs. Holt wasn't anything special at this point, but he was that big time vet that didn't explode physically, but got it done on the sideline and did those vet things on the field to get open.

If Garrard was a better QB, Holt would have put up better numbers this past year.

                      Tory Holt > Hines Ward

He can still play. Someone will sign him.

Holt still runs great routes and has pretty solid hands, the real problem is his legs, they are completely shot to hell and he has no burst or acceleration. I could see him going to NE, Carolina or Chicago.

He went on record not too long ago saying that he wants to end his career in Carolina. I'd like to see it happen, he's not a #1 anymore, but Smitty needs some dam help!

I was listening to sports radio today and I heard Holt answer this question. I'll paraphrase what I heard him say, "I would like to go up there and play for the bears. I have so much respect for Martz as a man and coach and I'd play for him anytime. Yes I would like the chance to be a Bear if they'll have me."

I can't say if Holt would be great/good/bad but I think he could make the roster and post some stats next year.
