University of Oregon running back LaMichael James was jailed Tuesday on domestic violence charges, the latest in a series of incidents to roil the Ducks football team.

Springfield police arrested James, 20, on charges of fourth-degree assault, menacing and strangulation, all under under the state’s Abuse Prevention Act. Bail has not been set and he remained in custody Wednesday morning.

Police were not releasing any additional information early Wednesday. The charges are common in domestic violence assaults.

The arrest comes just a day after placekicker Rob Beard, 19, was cited for fourth-degree assault in connection with a Jan. 24 street fight that left him severely injured and hospitalized. Beard was charged with assaulting a 19-year-old woman in the fight.

Two other men, both Lane Community College students, have been charged with second-degree assault in connection with Beard’s injuries.

James was a freshman sensation on last season’s Rose Bowl team. He was a standout who helped the team recover from the loss of LeGarrette Blount, who was suspended after punching a Boise State player in the Ducks’ opening game.

Hasn't really been an update on the Masoli situation yet I don't think. Oregon screwed themselves out of a National Title run.

Actually Masoli was at a bar on video during the time of the crime, pretty sure he's been cleared of any wrong doing and the case was dropped.

Also, for this situation, I'm gonna wait until all of the info comes out before I pass judgment. I mean, these days touching a woman during an argument seems to warrant harassment charges. LMJ seemed like a really good kid, he's down to earth, educated, I heard great things about him from when he was at high school too. He seems like the least likely person to do something like this.

Yeah see, I've been saying all day that its possible she overreacted. I mean in today's society, assault could be simply touching a woman during an argument and her claiming you hit her or something. She could've possibly lied about it or overreacted. Maybe he didn't actually choke her, maybe he pushed her back and hit her neck, who knows.

I agree with you, but when it comes to Oregon RB's with a "La" prefix, it's hard to remove any preconceived notions of violent behavior.
