Modified OT Rules to be reviewed.

    Peter King (SI_PeterKing) on Twitter
Here's a stunner: NFL Competition Committee will consider a "modified sudden death'' rule at NFL Meetings in late March.

@SI_PeterKing It's coming, Peter. First team to 6 wins in overtime. I've heard they may try it in just the playoffs first. Would be great.
Just up for discussion at the owner meetings, but this could be interesting and allow both teams to get a possession in OT

I like this. You could win with 2 field goals or a touchdown. You still couldn't get the ball back if the team scored a touchdown on first position, but i still like this better. Hard fought football game comes down to a kicker...smh

I could live with this. I'm just pulling this out of my ass but I would bet that a high percentage of all OT games that end on the first possession were won with a FG.

This would be quite a bit better than the current. Although I like the college OT format, that would be nice to see modified to fit the NFL.

I'm a big fan of the College OT format as well. In fact, I have never even heard of the first to 6 rule, but now that I have I really like this format a lot.

I made a face similar to this after reading the OP :palooza:

Not sure I'd like it more than the current system. Still can end on one play and with one team never getting the ball.

Although I guess it does still have the sudden death factor and would allow for more of a game if FGs are in play and make people stop bitching about teams not getting the ball.

Yea, but it wouldn't end with a field goal so the other team gets a chance. If you can't stop a team from a TD thats that teams problem.

What's the big deal between a field goal and a TD?

If you can't stop an offense from driving down the field, you lose.

Dont like it the first team to 6 stuff.. I gotta feeling if thats the case we will see more ties. Who knows. I think the best solution should be both teams get one possession to do something.

Why not just give the defensive team a chance to respond to the score.

                      Team A scores a TD.
Team B gets to receiver the kickoff and try and tie it back up.

I suppose that makes too much sense.

                        I don't either.

Each team needs a chance to score at the very least.

The nfl overtime needs to be changed the sooner the better.

the NFL overtime equivalent to Baseball woud be the visiting team scoring in the Top of the 10th and the game is over, that never sat well with me.

In baseball, it's based on home/away. In the NFL, it's a flip of the coin which is 50/50.

I still think each team does not deserve an offensive possession in OT. If your TEAM is good enough, you should be able to get the ball back through your defense. If not, oh well.

They should do 10 minute quarters. If a team is leading at the end of the quarter, they win. Very simple.

Just wait until a team gets a field goal, kicks it off and the receiving team scores because of a missed block in the back or holding call. All hell will break loose.
