    Thomas Jones to the Lions

Free-agent running back Thomas Jones will sign with the Lions, according to the Detroit News.

Jones, 31, gained 1,402 yards and scored 14 touchdowns for the Jets last season. He was released last week in a cost-cutting move.
Fabulous start to the offseason for Detroit with Vanden-Bosch and Jones. Evening out the vet-youngster ratio pretty quickly.

This makes me happy. Now we just need a speed guy out of the backfield.

Well he probably won't be as successful considering the Jets have a top 5 offensive line and we have a bottom 10, probably bottom 5 offensive line.

Am I the only Lions fan who doesn't like us getting a bunch of 30+ year old players and giving them contracts over 2 years? There is a reason why all of these older players are on the market.

Good! Now it'll be him and Brown in the backfield while we give Smith a little play time and we'll be ok.

Now we need to get some O-lineman and db's..

                        RIP West

That statement was made on Wednesday as a prediction.

RB Thomas Jones will sign with Lions, SI writer predicts
Tim Twentyman / The Detroit News

Free-agent running back Thomas Jones will sign with the Lions, but he should sign with the New England Patriots.

That was the prediction and opinion offered Wednesday by Don Banks of Sports Illustrated.

Jones, 31, gained 1,402 yards and scored 14 touchdowns for the Jets last season. He was released last week in a cost-cutting move, and the Jets appear confident that Shonn Greene will emerge as their feature back.

"The Lions have the greatest need and thus should be willing to pay the most," Banks writes.

Banks adds, however, "The Patriots picking the Jets' pocket for a veteran running back would certainly stoke their rivalry a little more."

Jones might be one of the Lions' targets due to the uncertain health of Kevin Smith, who is rehabilitating from knee and shoulder injuries.
