    Falcons Retain Cornerback Grimes

    Falcons Retain Cornerback Grimes
The Falcons announced Tuesday cornerback Brent Grimes, who started eight games in 2009, signed an exclusive rights contract.

Atlanta also released wide receiver James Swinton.

Grimes led the team with six interceptions last year, his second accrued season in the league. His status as an exclusive rights free agent keeps him from talking to other teams if his current club extends a tender offer. Tuesdays announcement marked that offer and signing.

Grimes has 114 career tackles, seven interceptions, one sack, one fumble recovery and 19 passes defensed.

Swinton was signed by the Falcons to the practice squad on Dec. 15, 2009 where he spent the remaining three games of the season.

Yes! He deserved it. Hands down in my opinion our best corner. I wonder what the contract details are...

He played like absolute bullshit 99% of the time. He's an amazing athlete, lame football player.

Antonio Cromartie had insane INT's 2 years ago. Look what has happened to him thus far...

        Lets see some consistency

I thought this too, but you gotta realize he had 6 INTs, so he's not terrible.

I still don't want him as our starting corner, but he's a sick athlete for sure.

Yeah but Cromartie is also a pretty damn good cover corner most of the times.

Yep. Since Grimes was an undrafted free agent out of Shippensburg University, and not a first round pick out of FSU, I think we should hold off on comparing him to Cro.

Very hard working guy and an unbelievable athlete. I still don't want him as my starting CB, but he didn't play that poorly last season.

Oh, and the Falcons didn't have to front Grimes $500,000 for child support either. So Grimes > Nosmartie

Glad he's still on the team but he's not going to be starting next year. Dunta Robinson + Chris Owens ftw

Woo hoo...a guy I've never heard of signed a contract with a team I don't give a rat's ass about.

I have six friends that go to Shippensburg.

That's all I can add to this.
