Not sure about this one..
The Seattle Seahawks are banking on Charlie Whitehurst eventually being a worthy successor to incumbent quarterback Matt Hasselbeck(notes).
According to ESPN, the Seahawks have agreed to a move to obtain Whitehurst from the San Diego Chargers.
Per the report, Seattle will send a 2011 third-round draft pick and move down 20 positions in the second round of this year’s draft to San Diego for Whitehurst. The Seahawks don’t have a third-round pick in this year’s draft, so they had to work out a trade to acquire him.
Plus, the Seahawks have agreed to a two-year contract with the former Clemson quarterback that will average $5 million annually.
Whitehurst has performed well during the preseason, but hasn’t played in a real NFL game while toiling behind starter Philip Rivers(notes) and backup Billy Volek(notes).
Whitehurst is a player with upside, but he’ll need to do a lot to justify the Seahawks’ hefty investment.
