Former New York Giants and Washington Redskins linebacker Antonio Pierce is joining ESPN as an NFL analyst after announcing his retirement from football.

Pierce, who was released by the Giants in February, will appear on “NFL Live” Thursday (ESPN, 4 p.m. ET) to discuss his retirement from the NFL and his new role with ESPN.

Pierce, who officially will start in his new role with ESPN this month, will appear on “NFL Live,” “SportsCenter,” “ESPNNews” and 1050 ESPNNewYork. He also will provide weekly analysis for ESPNNewYork.com.

          Another Emmitt smith
"From the time he hits the court, he plays at a competitive level that you rarely see," Popovich says. "He does the exact same things that Kobe (Bryant) does, that Michael Jordan did.

Wow, so another former player who will provide zero insight in terribly worded ways.

              Can't wait.

I hope he gets 5 or 6 concussions from banging his head on the desk every time Trent Dilfer screams into the camera.

ESPN loves those. Instead of having guys that maybe never played the game actually give some thoughtful insights, they take near brain dead ex-NFL players that recycle the same shitty cliches.

                    ESPN's NFL coverage is AWFUL.

It really is, I can't even think of any NFL analysts that I do like. I'd rather watch all three installments of the Twilight Saga than have to sit through a 30-minute segment of NFL Live.

                      Wingo is a cheesedick host...

Schlereth is always jumping on a soap-box about players in his day not doing this, or not doing that, and why today's players are soft....

Dilfer and Hasselbeck spout the same cliches non-stop, and never just say "NFL". Instead they say "NATIONAL.FOOTBALL.LEAGUE". The two of them suffer from over-annunciation disease (they must have studied under Colin Cowherd for this one, as they both employ his patented "talk slowly and emphatically, take 5 minutes to make a 30 second point, and you will sound smarter, trust me" tactic)

Marcellus Wiley deserves his own thread....

And guys like Shaun King, James Hasty, Darren Woodsen, etc. are interchangeable.

ESPN's analysts overall are pretty annoying these days, especially now that Reynolds/Gammons are at MLB network, but the pro football crew is by far the most unbearable.

the point of people like Pierce providing commentary is for the name not the insight. people talked about Emmitt Smith, they knew who he was, and he probably had a ton of fans tuning in just because he is Emmitt Smith. that's why these guys get canned a few years later (sup tiki). ESPN uses them up them cuts them loose. aint hard to figure out
