NFL bans Packers’ Jolly for 2010, maybe more

GREEN BAY, Wis. — The NFL has suspended Green Bay Packers defensive tackleJohnny Jolly without pay for the upcoming season and perhaps beyond for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.

The league says Jolly’s suspension begins immediately and will continue through at least the 2010 season. He will be eligible to apply for reinstatement after the Super Bowl.

Jolly is facing drug charges in Houston after his July 2008 arrest outside a club allegedly for illegally possessing at least 200 grams of codeine. If convicted, Jolly faces up to 20 years in prison.

“Johnny is a good player that loves everything about the game of football,” Packers general manager Ted Thompson said in a statement. “We appreciate the contributions he has made to the Packers the past four seasons. His focus and priorities now lie elsewhere — our thoughts are with him during this difficult personal time.

“As this is a league matter, the team will have no further comment.”

Kinda surprised he got the hammer already without any kind of conviction.

He is an idiot though, but unfortunately for the Packers, a very very talented idiot that Dline will miss.

I just saw this story on jsonline.com. Jolly is an idiot and should be suspended. I sure hope GB doesn't fight the suspension like those cheaters in Minny.

Though I think GB has done a fair job of answering this. They probably anticipated some of this, cause they drafted two DL that can play DE in a 3-4, plus they moved Ryan P. out to DE.

TT's statement sure didn't give any indication they would fight the suspension. I think it's fair to say he will never play another snap in Green Bay.

What a waste of talent and a great name.

I agree. TT's statement almost sounded like a farewell to ole Jolly.

Oh well, he is/was a good player, i don't think that given the slightest chance he gets off on what he's being charged with, that any team will look at him, but then again, some players have done worse..

yeah dude, you are a starting defensive lineman in the NFL, you can pay someone to haul that shit for you and take the fall for you too.

what a waste. but the team was ready, they knew they were gonna have problems on the line because there was alot of talk about harrel never playing again too (im not sure what his current situation is).
