ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports that Brett Favre has told the Jets he plans to retire.
Favre sent an email to ESPN thanking the organization, saying he had no regrets about ending his career with the Jets. "My time with the Jets was short, but I was honored to be given that chance." The Jets now have the money and impetus to find a quarterback to pair with Kellen Clemens and place Favre on the reserve/retired list. The Jets will hold his rights for two years, so Favre would have to request a release to go elsewhere should he ever change his mind. Which would never happen.
