Jags release Florence and Porter

ESPN - The Jaguars released wide receiver Jerry Porter and cornerback Drayton Florence on Wednesday, two highly-touted free agents from last spring.

Florence received a six-year, $36.1 million contract that included a $3 million signing bonus and $6 million in bonuses and base pay in 2008.

Porter signed a six-year, $30.4 million contract last year, earning $7.5 million in 2008.

"In going through our personnel evaluations and roster analysis, we are making decisions that we believe will help improve our team for the 2009 season and beyond," general manager Gene Smith said.

At least they realized they made a mistake and got those bums off the roster, I couldn't deal with another year of them on the Jags.

Actually I think they will try to make moves to improve the team, Gene Smith is already making moves by releasing these guys, don't look for him to stop here. The team has holes and Gene is going to address them, he knows what he is doing.

I don't see us signing any big names in Free Agency, but I think he will bring in a couple players and then focus a lot on the draft, he wants the team to get younger, so hopefully he drafts well and addresses our needs.

Yeah me neither, he might bring in some guys who can come in on a rotation, but no big name starters, he rather build through the draft.

I saw this on the ESPN Bottom Line. I'm glad we got rid of both of them. I think Gene Smith is going to go after a corner in FA. Not a top flight corner but someone to add some depth and improve the pass D.
