FOXBORO, Mass. (WPRI) - New England Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker was back on the practice field Wednesday, just four months after undergoing reconstructive knee surgery.
Welker tore both his ACL and his MCL during the Patriots' regular season finale against Houston back in January. He underwent reconstructive surgery for the torn ACL on February 2nd (the MCL did not require surgery).
On Wednesday, Welker surprised onlookers by taking part in "organized team activities" at the team's practice facility, adjacent to Gillette Stadium.
Welker took part in agility drills, and was seen stretching, catching passes, and even running passing routes.
Teammate Randy Moss says he's encouraged by Welker's recovery.
"It's very impressive to me. You know I'm a big fan of Welker way before he came here, back when he was in Miami. So I can't wait to have him back on the field whenever that day comes."
In addition to the knee operation, Welker reportedly also underwent shoulder surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff.
Welker did not comment on his recovery, but recently told reporters there was no timetable for his return.
