    The FCS college football thread.

Mainly just an excuse for me to update you fine folks about Robert Morris.

We lost 28-14 to Dayton, but it should have been closer. We started making a comeback by picking off a Steve Valentino pass, then scoring just moments after to cut it to 21-14. Then we picked off another Valentino pass, and as the guy was running it back for a score, Valentino stripped the ball from him, recovering it. They went on to score after our momentum was shot and that was it.

Much better performance than last season against them though, and we should compete for the NEC title.

I love FCS/D1-AA football, mainly because I had a few teammates play at that level. It's good ball.

Some big time wins for FCS schools this weekend. North Dakota State beat Kansas and Jacksonville State beat Ole Miss.

I keep up with the SoCon mainly since my friends played at Furman and Western Carolina. I also had a friend play for Holy Cross. With Georgia State starting their program this year I may adopt them as my squad. Panthers won their first game in school history to a surprising crowd of 32,000 at the Georgia Dome.

Couple of buddies playing at this level.

Good friend and former HS captain plays MLB at VMI.

DB from our archrivals's plays at James Madison. LB from them at Davidson. A couple more too.

Now that fall has hit I really wish Furman or Elon would've given me a commitable offer and I'd be playing.

That happened to me for the first two or three years of college. I still debate whether playing small school would've been worth it, but I did have the time of my life at LSU.

I wanted to play at Furman bad. They invited me to a few games but nothing serious. Western Carolina was looking at me too but I think it was more as a courtesy since they had signed a kid from my school the year before. If Georgia State had a team when I was a senior I'd have seriously considered that too. They're going to clean up on city kids who don't feel like playing in Statesboro or Valdosta.

My basic thought on it was I'd play 1-AA ball if it was a good school academically since I knew I wouldn't be playing in the pros. Western offered me a full ride but they aren't a good school and they are in the middle of nowhere, so they were ruled out. Furman and Elon both "offered" me, but I was basically a plan B or C guy (I'm a 5-10 180 pound white WR who runs a 4.6 laser, not like there's a shortage of them in CFB) and the guys they had ahead of me committed there.

I had a ton of D2 offers but none that really were good academically. Once it became clear that I wasn't gonna be going to Furman and Elon I really stopped caring about recruiting football wise. My head coach got me a walk-on spot from Skip Holtz at ECU, but he left for USF about a week after that and that was the end of that.

I had always loved OSU, always felt like home there, and they are one of the top ranked political science & history departments in the entire nation, plus I got a full ride in academic scholarships either through the university or through local foundations, so I chose them. I've been up there all the time since a lot of my friends go there and I love it.

              Anyways, enough babble from me.

Western was in the middle of nowhere but I kind of liked the stadium and the mountain setting. Plus it was only 4-5 hours from my house. Furman was top choice but apparently 5'10 205 fullbacks with 5-flat lasers weren't in high demand either.

Yeah a lot of people from my HS go to Western and all I see on facebook from them is about how there's not shit to do there. I'm not much a mountain guy anyway, but to each his own.

I loved Furman. Beautiful campus, a few friends go there, just a great place.

Robert Morris 35, Sacred Heart 31

In this NEC high-profile match-up, the Colonials go on the road and come out victorious after some clutch play by the quarterback Jeff Sinclair and tight end Shadrae King. Dale Fink for the Pioneers hit Sean Kessler for his fourth touchdown pass with :59 left, giving Sacred Heart a three-point lead, but then Sinclair hit King for an 8-yard score with :17 left, giving the Colonials the win.

1-0 in the NEC, let's goooooooooooooooooooooo

                      CCSU-44 Bentley-14

After being obliterated by New Hampshire (the 9th ranked team in the FCS) we shit all over Bentley. Can't wait to see the work CCSU does on the NEC.

I just spent 10 days in Bowling Green. Unfortunately nobody there even acknowledges Western has a football team since they moved up to FBS.

True. I live near Bowling Green. Campellsville University has a decent small program football team also.

James Madison got a huge win, but this certainly hurts Boise's stock
