Housh to Ravens

Remember how we posted last night that former Seahawks WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh – he of the $7 million guarantee – likely would end up in Oakland or in Washington. Well, we were close. He’s going to Baltimore.

Adam Schefter of ESPN.com , who’s been on quite a tear the past couple days, is reporting Houshmandzadeh and the Ravens have reached agreement on a one-year deal that will pay him $855,000 (the Seahawks have to pay him the rest of his guaranteed money).

In an interesting twist, Houshmandzadeh will be on the field when New York Jets CB Darrelle Revis takes his first game action of the 2010 season Sept. 13. Anquan Boldin is Baltimore’s top WR, but Houshmandzadeh should fit in fine with reliable WR Derrick Mason and TE Todd Heap. I imagine Houshmandzadeh will take a good chunk of Mark Clayton’s work in those three-receiver packages.

This isn’t the fastest or the youngest WR corps in the NFL, but the Ravens front office has given QB Joe Flacco some pretty good weapons. Houshmandzadeh will add his specialty into the mix, making tough catches across the middle and grabbing receptions that give his team first downs.

Ozzie and Harbaugh are not fucking around this year. The offense should be tremendous. I can't even imagine how happy Flacco must be right now, after two years of Mason and Heap and nothing else to throw to down the field. Lots of weapons now...Rice and McGahee should be pretty happy too...

This should be an excellent pick up for the Ravens and even furthers their chances to win a Superbowl. Who season will depend on injuries and the productiveness of Joe Flacco though.

They have too many possession type receivers. With Clayton probably going to be released, Stallworth out, their biggest deep threat is Mason. Their offense should be pretty good this year but I don't think it'll be very explosive at all outside of Ray Rice.

Explosiveness shouldn't be an issue...I mean, having Stallworth healthy would be nice, but as it is now it looks like there's too much firepower for most defenses to stop. Boldin and Mason have proven to be too much for a single DB to cover (other than say, Revis or Asomughua), and Housh will now be working against #3 DBs. Then defenses have to take into account Heap and Dickson, and of course Ray Rice and McGahee, even our FB is an offensive weapon. That's a lot for defenses to account for.

I'm not denying they have good players. But what I'm saying is other than Ray Rice breaking a huge run I see the Ravens offense being an offense that has to put together 8-10 play drives every-time to score.

Very good move for a couple of reasons, first of all hes a very solid possession receiver and he will give Flacco another reliable target to move the chains.

Secondly though, the guy is a hell of a blocker too. The Ravens will still favor the run on offense, and Housh (coupled with Boldin) gives their offense another element in the run game.

Good to see Seattle basically traded Josh Wilson and TJ Houshmandzadeh for a 5th round pick. lol.

This. TJ is beyond washed up IMO and not the threat the Ravens needed.

Good move for Baltimore, I can't imagine that he is that washed up. Should be another great option for Flacco. Makes defenses have to respect their passing game a bit more. I'm glad he landed on his feet quickly.
