There is absolutely tragic news coming out of Wyoming this afternoon as a Laramie television is reporting that a car wreck has claimed the life of one member of the Cowboys football program and seriously injured another.
According to KGWN-TV, an unnamed Wyoming football player was killed in a car wreck that occurred at around 5:30 a.m. local time Monday. Additionally, another unnamed player was airlifted from the scene and, sources told the station, may lose an arm. Two other players who were in the vehicle at the time of the accident were "okay".
Colorado State Police officials said alcohol was not involved.
While there's been no confirmation from Wyoming, the school's media relations department sent out the following press release at 3:40 ET this afternoon:
The University of Wyoming Athletics Department has cancelled this afternoon's football press conference originally scheduled for 3 p.m. An update will be sent shortly.
The station also reports that the Wyoming football team had a team meeting with grief counselors earlier this afternoon.
