    Bush Forfeits Heisman

    http://msn.foxsports.com/collegefoot...Trojans-091410

Reggie Bush has forfeited his 2005 Heisman Trophy.

The New Orleans Saints running back released a statement Tuesday, saying he'd give up the award as speculation swirls regarding his time at USC.

"I have made the difficult decision to forfeit my title as Heisman winner of 2005," Bush said in the statement. "The persistent media speculation regarding allegations dating back to my years at USC has been both painful and distracting. In no way should the storm around these allegations reflect in any way on the dignity of this award, nor on any other institutions or individuals."

It's the first time college football's top award was returned by a recipient.

The NCAA found major violations in USC's football program and levied serious sanctions against the school in June, including the loss of scholarships and a two-year bowl ban. The Trojans have dissociated themselves from Bush, who was accused of accepting money and other benefits from sports agents.

Bush rushed for 1,658 yards, 15 touchdowns and averaged 8.9 yards per carry for USC during his Heisman-winning season.

Bush received 784 first-place votes in the 2005 Heisman balloting, second only in Heisman history to O.J. Simpson's 855 in 1968.

Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young finished second in the Heisman balloting in 2005 before beating Bush's Trojans in the BCS national championship game.
    :rolleyes1:

I'm not really a Bush fan, but he shouldn't have to give back the Heisman. The plays that dude made in College were outstanding.

just like ILLEGAL aliens getting LEGAL treatment...

What part of Reggie Bush breaking NCAA rules and being INELIGIBLE makes it ELIGIBLE for him to win the Heisman?

Illegal aliens still breathe, bleed, eat, and sleep....just like Bush still made those plays on the field, however, neither are entitled to special circumstances because those entitlements are based on meeting LEGAL/ELIGIBLE GUIDELINES, which neither do!

Pete Rose had a great career, none of which had anything to do with his betting. He's still not allowed in the Hall of Fame though.

Now he wants it...I heard he didn't want it earlier. I hope he takes it because in history, he will be known as only getting it because Bush was considered illegible.

Seriously...Bush got the 2nd highest total votes ever. People point out Youngs Rose Bowl game but forget that it was after the vote for Heisman. I guess that is fault with the system but not Bush.

Leave it vacant... I don't like the precedent it would be setting if they gave it to VY.

I lold at comparing the Heisman trophy to Immigration.

But I believe it should be vacant. Dont give it to VY he didnt win it. Plus who cares we all will remember Bush as the most dynamic RB this decade anyway. Just like we remember VY for having one of the best BCS performances of all time. The award is nice and cute, but doesn't mean anything, especially 5 years later.

paint an asterisk on the helmet and give him the trophy back.

he was the best college football player that year and that cannot be changed, anyone else and it's a lie.

They should leave it vacant like they did with the championships.

LOL, who cares if he gives back the physical trophy, everybody knows he won it and you can't erase that.

It's like when teams have to forfeit wins & championships. That shit only matters in media guides, nobody cares.

You cant "undue" what has already happened.

                            Let him keep it.

All of the top football programs are shady, USC is just the one that happened to get caught this time. I hate the holier than thou attitude people get when college players or schools get caught up in stuff like this knowing full well their school does it's own fair share of dirt.

Even Purdue does dirt and we're some middling Big Ten school.

I guess it doesn't matter because the Heisman trophy is lame nowadays anyway, with the ship it to the best player on best team mentality.

Err... Best OFFENSIVE player on best BCS/"Cartel" team, but I see the point you're making. You could've argued for Suh or Kellen Moore last year, Moore wasn't even invited. Not to even fucking mention Dan LeFevour.
