Here are mine.. broken down into two categories.
Seahawks-49ers Thoughts
- Everyone still ready to christen the 49ers as the Cinderella team of 2010? As per the usual, it didn't take long for everyone to recall why this 49er team hasn't made it to a postseason since the Mariucci and Garcia days.. 1) Alex Smith is fucking terrible, and if you think something other than that you've never watched him play and 2) Mike Singletary is another perfect example of "great assistant, terrible coach".. Pete Carroll shouldn't be out of the NFL for 10+ years and outcoach you and outclass you in Week 1.
- With all that said, I think the 49ers surprise the NFL landscape on Monday Night and beat the Saints. A desperate team + overconfident team traveling to the West Coast + defense that only stopped the run because Brad Childress stopped calling run plays and that's about the only thing the 49ers offense does well = upset. But I wouldn't be sad at all if I am wrong.
- I guess 180 transactions and turning over more than half your roster isn't a bad thing when most of the transactions are gutting the waste of the Tim Ruskell area.
- The Seahawks may not win the division (in fact I'd be shocked if they did), but they will compete in games and they will surprise more teams than the 49ers. This is a dangerous team surfacing down the line after a few more drafts to replenish the youth on the team and a few key veteran additions to balance out the roster.
- Welcome back Mike Williams. I think you're a camp causality on 31 other rosters but Pete Carroll knew what buttons to push with you. Yet another slice across the wrists for Lions fans.
- Deon Butler is good. Real good. The move he put on Nate Clements was nasty, I expect him to have several more big plays that result in points for the offense.
- Aaron Curry had the best game of his career Sunday. Hoping to see him continue this as the season progresses.
- The Seahawks defense WITH Lofa Tatupu starting is Top 15 good. Without him? Ugly. Any hopes of the postseason ride on his shoulders.
- Matt Hasselbeck showed he's still a pretty damn good QB when he has protection and is healthy. He's not the fringe Top 10 guy he used to be, but he can definitely lead a team to victory assuming he's feeling good.
Other Thoughts..
- I've been on the Texans bandwagon for over a year now, and I think I jumped on a little too early. They look very focused to correct the wrongs from last year. Neil Rackers was perfect in his debut but they didn't need him of course. Still, major confidence booster for a team that was a consistent kicker away from being an 11 or 12 win team a year ago. And if Arian Foster is the real deal? That offense just got that much better.
- In contrast, I think the Colts are in trouble. That o-line is going to get Peyton killed. I know Indy was behind for most of the game, but I'm sure Peyton would like to hand it off more than 10 times a game.. instead of throwing it nearly 6 times as much. That rush defense looks as bad as the defenses that would get gouged years ago. The Colts ducked that though because the division wasn't as dangerous then as it is now. I'm sure the VSN Colt gestapo will laugh at this but, I think Indy is in serious trouble if they lose on Sunday Night.
- Sneaky AFC sleeper that I should have seen coming? Tennessee. The Colts reeling sure doesn't hurt their chances at going for the division or a wild card at worse. Seems like Vince Young rediscovered the talent he had coming out of Texas, this is a very good football team.
- Sneaky AFC sleeper that I saw coming: Kansas City. You all can continue to jump on this wagon as they start out 3-0.
- Teams that sucked Week 1 but will be fine: Dallas, Atlanta, Carolina.
My NFC sleeper Carolina had a tough draw against a very underrated Giants team but I think they'll be okay as they bounce back this weekend against the Bucs (who can thank Eric Mangini for their 1-0 start). Atlanta ran into a tough as nails Steeler D but I think you can expect them to bounce back in a big way against the Derek Anderson led Cardinals. Dallas had a horrible debut but I think they blow out Chicago and get things going (unfortunately).
- Teams that sucked Week 1 that should be concerned greatly:
San Diego, Indianapolis, NY Jets, Minnesota. Already covered the Colts woes. The Chargers look like a different team without McNeil and Jackson. Also don't believe they're as good on D as they were in previous years. The Jets offense is TERRIBLE. They look like the 2000 Ravens team with Tony Banks. And the Vikings? I think that Brett Favre magic is gone and the loss of Sidney Rice will cripple their passing attack. Is Adrian Peterson good enough to carry this team into the playoffs? I don't think so.. not with the NFC looking like it's going to be pretty hotly contested this year.
- Teams that sucked Week 1 that made me "lol" because I knew they'd suck: Cincinnati.
I'll say it again, this is a 6-10 football team folks. Baltimore is going to be the latest team to beat the shit out of this team. How soon does TO blow up on Carson Palmer? I got Week 7 in my pool.Originally posted by ram29jacksonI already said months ago that Seattle wasn't winning any SBComment

Hopefully a win over Pittsburgh will have more people realizing this is a very good football team and a legitimate playoff contender.

How were people sleeping on the Titans? There's a reason Fisher has been around forever. And say what you will about Vag Young, he gets it done when it matters.

They're your favorite team. You're doing your job hyping them up. You do this every year.* Chrispy logs into KGs account to see what misogi wrote* [05:53 PM]Comment
