    Deangelo Williams Apparently NOT Available..

    Per Adam Schefter's blog:

Green Bay got shut out on running back Marshawn Lynch. And if it wants Carolina running back DeAngelo Williams, who is in the last year of his contract, it will be disappointed. At least two teams privately have admitted to calling Carolina to inquire about the availability of their Double Trouble running backs, but the Panthers made it known to them that they will not be trading either of them. Williams is not available, NFL teams have been told. Jonathan Stewart is not available, NFL teams have been told. It also sets up an interesting situation: Williams is headed into the last year of his contract and the Panthers have declined to sign him, or their other young core players -- such as center Ryan Kalil and linebacker Jon Beason -- to contract extensions. Before training camp, Panthers owner Jerry Richardson told his key players why he would not be re-signing them to extensions this year. Now Williams contract is coming up and there is interest in him around the league, but there will be no deal for him this season either from the Panthers or another team. Any team such as Green Bay that needs a running back needs to look elsewhere.
So happy I finally activated my insider account to read this. But then again there were a bunch of weird rumors going around before Lynch was traded. I guess we'll see what happens.

I hope he gets traded. Got Stewart in the FF league.

I really can't understand why they wouldn't be shopping him. The team isn't going anywhere. That was proven today when they got whipped by a Bears team starting Todd Collins. His contract is up at the end of the season and they have had shown no intention of resigning him.

Like the Bills rumors leading up to the trade, this just does not make any sense.

Let him go. Get his ass out the NFC S unless he is signing with the Bucs!

Pointless for the Packers to get him. Too many injuries already this year and one player won't make the difference.

It would make a big difference nonetheless. None of the injuries sustained today are long term. There's still 11 games left. The Redskins are a decent team and the Packers could've and probably should have won despite all the injuries. Let's not jump ship yet.

I'm just saying, the entire point of getting Williams is to win the Superbowl. Anything less of that is pretty much a waste of some draft picks. I don't think the Packers can win the super with all these injuries, Williams or not.

If anything it's more up for grabs this season than any other year. No team undefeated past week 5? I can't remember the last time no team started at least 8-0. And it's not like having both Grant and Williams next year would be a bad thing.

I'd be a bit more discouraged if there were teams just killing it right now, but there's not. Every team looks pretty beatable, and I think the Packers can get a lot better (I hope).

DeAngelo Williams on the Packers would instantly make them Superbowl contenders again...

I don't see why they wouldn't be shopping him. Richardson is being cheap this year and trying not to pay players and it looks like Williams is going to walk after this season anyway because he doesn't want to pay Williams if there is no season in 2011. At least get some draft picks or a WR or something, we never got anything for Peppers so hopefully if Williams isn't a Panther we can get something for him, at least RB is something we actually have a few good players at.

                      This organization is horrendously shitty.

I want John Fox gone, for starters.

Yeah I can never seem to figure the Panthers out. It seems they are really at rock bottom now though, and could use every draft pick they could get.

If they aren't re-signing Williams, and they aren't going to make the playoffs this year, and they need a lot of things, why not deal him?

                        Makes no sense.

I would be happy as a Packers fan if TT gave up to a second round pick for DeAngelo, and I can't imagine they wouldn't take it.

I just wish there was some way this could happen. With Jermichael Finley and Aaron Rodgers out now indefinitely, they need a running game now more than ever.
