No matter what they do, there will be some naysayers. I mean, say they take the top 16 teams for the tournament. What about the 17th team that should have been ranked higher? Or the 18th team? If they take the top team from each conference, what about a team with an identical record?
It would be more interesting if they had a playoff, but there will be problems either way.

Note: This article will be submitted as a final project for a research paper in a class of mine, so it isn't in typical B/R style. I debated on whether to rewrite it in a more familiar form for you readers, but decided to leave it as is...

I think that is what has to happen for the big conference schools to start lobbying for a playoff. BOTH teams in the BCS Championship game need to be from non-BCS conferences. It could happen if: Oregon, Oklahoma, Michigan State, Auburn, and LSU all lose at least one game (highly likely). Then, it will be up to voters to put in a one-loss team ahead of both TCU and Boise State. Nevada not staying undefeated hurts Boise State in terms of their remaining schedule. But if both win out, it will at least cause a stir.Comment
