In 1998, the Tennessee Titans had the 16th pick in the draft. With receiver as their biggest need and the best receiver in the draft still available, it looked like they'd take the talented wideout from Marshall. However, they didn't and took Utah receiver Kevin Dyson instead. Even though Dyson was a good player for Tennessee, it was still one of the biggest misses in draft-day history because they passed on a future hall of famer.

Now, 12 years later, they picked up that receiver. Randy Moss is finally a Tennessee Titan.

The Titans were the only team to claim him off of waivers and he'll join the team (happily, according to Adam Schefter: LINK) with a chance to get that elusive Super Bowl ring that is left to gain in his incredible career.

First off, even as a Titans fan, I'm not going to sit here and say we're the Super Bowl favorites with Moss coming in. However, this does make Tennessee a legitimate contender to get to Dallas in February, instead of the darkhorse candidate they've been for the first eight weeks of the season.

Let's get into the risks and rewards of the move.

To be honest, I don't see a risk by acquiring the disgruntled receiver. If it doesn't work out, this is still a playoff-caliber team and could get in as Wild Card team. However, the rewards are unimaginable.

With Moss, the offense could be one of the most explosive in the league. And he fits in absolutely perfectly for Mike Heimendinger's offense, which features a deep play-action pass once or twice a quarter. Did I mention yet that Vince Young throws one of the best deep balls in the NFL?

Moss in the offense doesn't only give him the opportunity for big stats; he opens up the playing field for his teammates as well. Look at how Percy Harvin performed with Moss on the other side. Damian Williams and Nate Washington could be having some huge performances if the opposing defenses decide to double-cover the former Viking/Raider/Patriot.

Oh, and there's that guy in the backfield that might finally get some of the pressure taken off of him. Are opposing defenses going to keep eight in the box and take their chances with Moss facing one-on-one coverage? Chris Johnson isn't going to get to his self-projected goal of 2500 rushing yards but he is going to find a lot more success.

"But Moss is a cancer...the Titans can't deal with a cancerous player!"

There's a reason why Jeff Fisher has been a head coach for 16 years. As much as his coaching ability is overrated, he is still a good enough coach to take this team to a Super Bowl. He has dealt with "cancerous" football players (i.e. Pac-Man Jones, Albert Haynesworth) so adding Randy Moss to that list won't affect him too much. If there's another coach in the league other than Bill Belichick that can handle Moss's baggage, it's Fisher.

Moss is in a contract year and he's already gone through two teams. Do you really think he's going to screw around and cost himself more money by giving up on a third team? I believe that Fisher will get the most he can about of him.

And can you imagine the offense when Kenny Britt returns from a hamstring injury? Young under center with Johnson behind him, Moss and Britt split out wide with Williams or Washington in the slot; good luck trying to stop that!

Once Moss was placed on waivers, I felt like this move made perfect sense, but I didn't think the front office had the balls to do it. Thankfully I was wrong and now I get to see one of my favorite players suit up for the team I love. Now the only question that needs to be asked is...

"Randy, are you going to be wearing #84 or #81?"

Im not buying this at all.

Pacman wasnt a disgruntled football player, he was a disgruntled person. On the field and in the practices he was a good guy. He never took plays off or mouthed off to anyone. And as soon as he became an off the field issue, they got rid of him. We all knew he was a talent and could lead our defense, but Fisher got rid of him either way.

And Albert was no where near the diva that he is now, when he was in Nashville. He was a bust until he wanted money then played his little heart out. Again neither guys had huge personalities with the Titans.

As far as I can recall, never have the Titans had a HUGE personality guy. Offense/Defense nobody has came through Nashville with a Diva attitude. Fisher won't allow it. CJ is the closest we have got and nobody can understand a thing he says.

Never has a star like this been in Nashville, and I think it will end badly, and we won't see another until Fisher is gone.

are you guys seriously trying to compare Childress' ability to control a player to Fisher's?

none of the players have any respect for Chilly except for Tarvaris "any other coach would have cut me by now" Jackson. The Vikings chopped their own balls off by kneeling to the altar of Lord Favre. Brett does whatever he wants and he doesn't give a shit about his head coach thinks, and that is something that is a worse locker room situation than Moss was. It wasnt made any better by the RIDICULOUS ego trip down to his farm to beg him to come back.

It's like that friend that we all have who tries to act like he's in control of his relationship and he's a total badass, then his wife comes around and he's bringing her tea, rubbing her feet, never sees any of his friends anymore but the woman still goes out whenever she wants. Chilly is a bitch and Randy knew it. that's why he had that post-game rant. he forgot how nice it is to have a coach that actually commands respect, in a stable situation with a disciplined team.

I agree that Fisher is overrated as a coach, but there's never been any question that his players give him their best, that he makes chicken salad out of chicken shit, and that he knows how what buttons to push. In practically any other situation in the league Vince Young would have been a bust and a second or third stringer by now after the mental depression stuff. Moss couldnt have hoped for a better situation.

If Randy Moss is not happy catching passes from Tom Brady and Brett Favre, what makes Vince Young any different?

As inaccurate as he is, it will give Moss more chances to catch the ball with armpits , elbows and all other kinds of highlights. Thats how I see it.

It just comes down to winning. If the Titans are winning, Moss will be fine. If not, as we all know, he won't feel appreciated or used correctly.

Interesting tidbits on twitter this morning:

1)Moss finally gets a bye week this week.
2)No state income tax in TN so making more $ each week.

I think the article inferred that he did, but whether Chile really did or not doesn't excuse Moss from acting out like that, and we as a society shouldn't accept it. I don't care how many touchdowns the guy can catch.
Ok, hope it didn't make you lose sleep.

I guess we just see things very differently. Appears you're into the "blame the victim" mentality.
I'm into the "the guy isn't a victim if he gets his restaurant national publicity" mentality. Randy Moss saying that guy's food sucks is probably the best thing that ever happened to his restaurant.

It benefits both sides. The team gets good food (at least most of the team thinks so), and the team gets to build good will in the community by reaching out to the local businesses. More good will in the community sells more jersey's and tickets. The caterer gets paid and can put the experience on there resume. Benefits both party's. Unless some insensitive jerk goes off on the caterers and makes the team look bad.
The part I disagree with is that ANY local restaurant could be used to "build good will in the community", this restaurant benefits more than the team does because the Vikings picked them. I'm sure the restaurant abuses the shit out of the fact they are "the Vikings caterer!". I don't get why you care if the city of Minneapolis is butthurt over this? Aren't you a Packer fan? You should be loving every minute of it.

Doesn't matter if the guys restaurant benefits from this or not. That kind of behavior is just wrong and shouldn't be tolerated.

And that bad behavior takes away good will instead of creating more nomatter what restaurant is catering.
