The village idiots are in full swing on local sports talk radio today. Saying we need to draft another QB in the first round this year.

I love the whole ''he has the talent, but can't stay healthy'' argument. Ryan Leaf had a ton of talent, but he was mentally unstable. Sorry to break this to you, Detroit fans, but staying healthy is a major part of the game. A failure is a failure - something stafford had written all over him coming out of college.

I'm not writing him off yet. QBs are typically given 3 years to prove themselves so he's got one year left. Also Stafford is much different then Ryan Leaf seeing as Stafford has actually gotten something done on the field.

However durability is very important and it seems he might not have it which is unfortunate. His career is far from over but he's definitely head down the road many could have beens have taken.

And you shouldn't write him off yet - that would be stupid. But he won't ever succeed, and if he doesn't, you really need to can the stupid fucking excuses behind it, because staying healthy is a huge part of the NFL. If Sam Bradford injures his shoulder over and over again, and fails to do anything relevant, he'll be a complete failure, too. Matt Stafford hasn't even gotten to .500 yet, so I wouldn't say he's gotten anything accomplished on the field, but be the major fucking failure that a few of us had him being, coming out of college. If you really think he's done anything, you Detroit fans are easily pleased - draft Ryan Mallett, you'll love that guy.

If Stafford doesn't succeed I won't make excuses. All I'm saying is that so far this season he's played good when he's been out there. Not great, but good. Of course staying healthy is a huge thing but it really isn't something Stafford can control. Its just his body isn't built to handle the NFL, or at least it seems like it isn't.

I will not say Stafford is good when healthy because honestly, he isn't. The guy has never been able to give enough game tape for other teams to scout and his career QB Rating is 67.1. Sure, he is looking good this season, but he has only played 3 games and hasn't finished 2 of them. I am not at all sold on the "He is good when healthy" argument when the stats clearly don't support that.

I fully blame the Detroit Lions and their repeated determination to avoid drafting offensive linemen. Why put a 80 million dollar investment behind a patchwork offensive line that wouldn't make the grade for probably 30 other NFL teams? So many other teams made commitments to improving their offensive line, but the Lions will do no such thing and repeatedly end up with top quality talent unable to do anything because of the horrible line.

To say Stafford doesn't have the stuff to be a franchise player is insane.

The Lions have look like a Different team when Stafford is on the field. In each game he has played in Stafford has looked really good, not great, but really good.

I say take him out for the season and if he needs surgery on his shoulder. Do it. It worked miracles for Brees, and seemingly Bradford too. The only downside? Drew Staton.
