Can Cam Newton be an NFL QB?

A lot of the draftniks have Cam Newton going late 1st or early second in the upcoming draft but I don't see his playing style transitioning into the NFL. I was somewhat wrong about Vince Young cause he won with the Titans but I dunno... Newton doesn't strike me as an NFL QB.

Confused by the questions... Will Cam Newton be drafted highly to play QB? Or, Can Cam Newton play QB?

The first one, I think he will be drafted to play QB. Highly(1st round)? No.

Can he play Quarterback in the NFL? At an intermediate level like Vince Young, sure. He wont survive with his run style. So he'll have to change that. Tebow and Young pave the way for him, making this a little more possible, and making NFL teams really think about it.

But call me a skeptic. Cause I dont really believe either too much.

He's got enough zip, certainly has the size, and we've all seen his running ability. I think he can at the least be a serviceable QB, no worse than some other guys who are starting right now.

Pro-Bowl caliber? Probably not, but definitely can start in the NFL with some refinement.

I'm not big on running quarterbacks. Some work, like Michael Vick, but Cam Newton's a hit-or-miss prospect. He's got an arm, but I'm not sure if he'll be able to be a good NFL QB.

I think he can be a fine QB at the pro level if given the chance to be brought along slowly.

People have been overrating his passing ability all year long IMO.

I agree with you, and I also think his off the field issues might catch up to him with his draft stock. The Quarterback position, you are expected to be the flawless leader. Guys like Vick and Roethlisberger are the exception, not the rule. Cam will make his way to the NFL, but I don't see him catching on.

He looked like McNabb on that last pass attempt throwing behind a receiver......so yea he can play QB in the NFL.

Russell was hot garbage all thru college until his last couple games, he was never really amazing, def never led an entire team like this... Newton will be fine.... It really doesn't matter what kind of offense or play style he does, if he's willing to be coached he has the raw skills to be alright... funny... Cam Newton is "Not an NFL QB" But people were so sure that David Carr, Alex Smith, Jamarcus Russell, Tim Couch, Ryan Leaf, Akili Smith...al those guys were supposedly "NFL" caliber QB's coming out... do I need say more?

Funny... because I have the power to groan you a million times... Looks like somebody with no defense to my post is a bit butthurt, so sad.

Fact of the matter is nobody really knows who is NFL ready and who is not, everybody has opinions... and a lot of the NFL GM's do make some big mistakes, but they are still professionals getting paid to select these people. Your opinion doesn't make him any less NFL ready. The offense they run doesn't showcase his arm so much, but from a lot of what I've seen he has the arm strength when they ask him to use it. If he is willing to be coached than he can be an NFL QB. The NFL is full of physically talented players, but if they don't work hard they will be nothing, there are players who don't have the best raw speed, arm, or tools but are willing to be coached and learn and become great players. IF Newton works hard he can be a decent NFL starter.

If Troy Smith can do it, Cam Newton can.

its working for Vick, its kinda working for Troy Smith, and it worked for a little while for Young. i think he'll be find and like OOBL said, he looks better in college than a lot of other prospects that were drafted very high.
