TCU to Join the Big East in all sports

Texas Christian University, located in Fort Worth, Texas, has accepted an invitation to become the 17th member school of the Big East Conference, according to an AOL Fanhouse report.

The Horned Frogs will join the conference for all sports, not just football as had previously been speculated.

TCU will join the conference on July 1, 2012, according to the report, and will begin play in the conference for the 2012-13 school year.

I don't see this reported anywhere else, so I'll hold off until I see an ESPN/CBS article on it. If true, it is good for the Big East and another blow to the MWC.

ESPN has picked this up as well.

You kind of saw the writing on the wall since the "Hawaii to MWC for football" rumor surfaced the other week. And I fully expect Hawaii to join the conference now.

It's a shame to see a quality conference like the Mountain West go up in flames like this. But the BCS created this mess but constantly slighting the mid major schools.. so now the Utah's and TCU's of the world took it upon themselves to join the bigger conferences in order to get a fair shake.

I feel terrible for Boise State - basically they escaped the WAC to do their part in joining a conference on the verge of AQ status.. then the Pac 10 shook up the college football world and all of a sudden the Mountain West is basically just the bottom feeders of the conference merged with the "top" of the WAC.

The rich get richer. Too bad. The MWC might have shaken things up a bit if some of their teams didn't bail.

You mean the WAC is the WAC again? You forget that the MWC is just 8 teams from the original WAC who seceded.

Yes, the MWC is just basically a renamed old WAC.

                This is all very confusing.

Boise just can't get a break....maybe the should just join the Pac-10.

I think this is somewhat retarded by TCU. If they held out another year or two, the MWC conference might have gotten a BCS bid of their own (doubtful), or TCU might have been asked to join the Big12 to replace a departing team (possible). As it stands, all of their sports teams now have to play East Coast teams two time zones away. Good luck selling that to potential recruits.

Boise has no where near the academic standards required for a Pac-10 team, iirc.

Or are even competitive outside of football.
