    Week 13 NFL Thoughts

    Week 13 NFL Thoughts
*Eagles won a big game against the Texans, but if the Giants and Bears keep winning, they might find themselves out of the playoffs. That would be a shame, because they are one of the only exciting items in an otherwise dull season. How dull? The Texans are still in the playoff hunt. Blech.

*Cleveland looks much improved this year. They are winning games with Jake Delhomme at QB…no small feat. Delhomme makes the worst decisions I have ever seen, and I’ll be surprised if he is still in the NFL next year.

*The Packers looked sharp against the Niners, and they need to continue winning to stay in the NFC playoff picture. Aaron Rodgers has found his accuracy, and Donald Driver has recovered from nagging injuries. The Packers offensive line has really improved from the beginning of the year – getting Chad Clifton back in uniform was a good move, and Bulaga has looked pretty good on the right side.

*Josh McDaniels got the axe after an uninspired 10-6 loss to the Chiefs. People can bitch about him getting rid of Cutler, Marshall, and Hillis, and having two highly unproductive #1 picks in Moreno and Tebow, but ever since their 6-0 start in 2009 Denver’s defense has been atrocious. I think that got McDaniels fired more than anything.

*Jacksonville being in the playoffs would be funny. MJD is a great player, but that’s about all the Jags have. Garrard has been pretty spotty this year.

*I caught the end of the Saints-Bengals game. How does Marvin Lewis still have a job? Every Bengal game I’ve seen this year has followed the same script…the Bengals fall behind as the offense gives the ball to Cedric Benson 3 times for zero yards…Carson Palmer fuels a big comeback…and then Lewis’ defense makes a series of bonehead plays and blow the win.

*I like the Raiders…they have been a tough team for the past few years but haven’t really had production from the QB spot. They still aren’t, but a healthy Darren McFadden might cover up that weakness. Of all the games this week, I think Oakland’s win over SD at SD was the most surprising…even more surprising than New England’s ass-kicking of New York.

*The Colts might be in some trouble with so many AFC South teams still in the running. Jon Kitna didn’t make the game-killing mistake and looked very good for the Cowboys, while Manning forced some passes a la Jon Kitna.

*The Steelers-Ravens game was an interesting slugfest, but Terry McCauley’s crew made several glaring mistakes. I think McCauley is one of the worst refs in the game, because he will call a ton of ticky-tack penalties yet miss the biggest/simplest calls. Rapistberger getting his nose broken by Ngata’s fist and Heath Miller being put into convulsions from a cheap shot by a Ravens LB were just two of the mistakes McCauley’s crew made. I thought the Ravens had the game wrapped up, but Polamalu’s sack and strip was a huge play. IMO, Polamalu is the best defensive player in the game this year.

*I’ve wondered how the Jets continue to win, because they don’t look impressive at all. Their defense isn’t nearly as good as it was last year, and with Jim Leonhard gone, they could be in a bind. The Mark Sanchez joyride ended last night…he threw so many INTs to short-dropping LBs and DBs that I thought I was watching an NCAA 2007 game for the PS2. I’ve never understood the hype about Sanchez, and I still don’t. His inability to perform in cold weather is going to cost the Jets come playoff time.

Aaron Rodgers missed a lot of guys against the 49ers. He was throwing the ball really flat and it looked like he didn't trust himself in the 1st half. As well as he played, he missed 4-5 guys that would have gone for big gains.

Starks looked VERY good running the ball. If he can do that week in and week out, the Packers offense could go back to elite status, especially with Driver healing up.

We have the best defense in the league right now, let's just hope we don't overlook the Lions. Cullen Jenkins made a couple big plays including 2 sacks against the 49ers. It's nice to see someone opposite of CMIII getting pressure on the quarterback.

It's going to be one hell of a stretch in the NFC North to see who wins this division. Both the Bears and Packers have very difficult schedules.

Ngata did not intentionally punch Big Be, his hand caught him on the nose. Should that have been a "blow to the head" penalty. By the book, perhaps....but IMO, it would have been a ticky tack call.

it looks like rogers is finally starting to remember he has amazing wideouts. for the last few years we've heard all this incredible hype for jermichael finley, then he gets hurt. i cant remember another player who the anouncing crow so much about liking a guy who hasnt done anything yet. going into the next offseason, it should be all about rodgers to jennings. period. the packers dont need a recieving tight end, they need a bulldozing blocker to help a spotty running game. its taken rodgers several weeks to get his chemistry going again with the amazing players on the outside who he didnt spend enough reps on. this could be the year where he finally comes up big when it matters in the playoffs.

I was complaining earlier this year because the Packers didn't pick up a halfback, and Starks was probably why. Dude never stops moving his feat and is hard to tackle.

Gotta disagree with ya. There is nothing like a fast tight end that can stretch the field. If Quarless can continue to improve, with he and Finley, this offense could be unstoppable. Especially if they both learn to block. With Grant back next year, and if Starks is as good as he looks and gets better, dayum. It's scary thinking about it.

We need to find a good, young LT. Maybe upgrade the OL a little bit.

My "Jason Garrett is sabotaging Phillips" conspiracy hit full steam when the screen shows a nearly 20% swing in Run/Pass in play calling since he took over.

Panthers RB made the best run Ive seen all year. The fact Im calling him Panthers RB shows just how little Ive watched of that snoozer team.

Josh McDaniels made just about every mistake a new headcoach can make. That young guy rah rah/tough dude routine wears thing when your alienating key guys , cutting guys who blossom , and run a mediocre system to begin with.Kudos to Denver for firing him before he gets on some hot streak that saves his ass.

Maybe Bellyflop can keep it going but Im constantly amazed at how hes covering up a huge lack of talent. Great coaching and great effort is how he won the first SBs so this team can do anything.

Troy Palumalu is a special player. Ill never understand the Ed Reed love knowing just what Troy means to the defense and the insane amount of field he covers.
Im not saying hes better than but any guy in particular but I cant recall the last time I saw a safety be responsible and/or cover for that much field nearly every play.
Best reason to have a license.
