Josh Freeman and LaGarrette Blount were named FedEx Air &Ground Player of the Week
TAMPA — If you voted, it paid off as Josh Freeman and LaGarrette Blount have been named FedEx Air and Ground Players of the Week. If you didn’t vote, don’t feel bad; the awards were very well deserved.
Josh Freeman threw for 237 yards on 21-of-26 passing, including a career-high five touchdowns for another career-high 144.2 passer rating in the Buccaneers’ 38-15 win over the Seattle Seahawks. He tied the franchise record for most TD tosses in a game, as only Brad Johnson has thrown 5 TD passes in a single game in a Bucs uniform. Blount finished with 164 yards rushing on 18 carries (9.1 average) in the victory. It was the most rushing yards by a Buccaneer back since Warrick Dunn rushed for 210 yards on 22 carries againstDallas on December 3, 2000 and the seventh-most rushing yards in a single game in team history.
Between Freeman and Blount, the pair became just the fourth set of teammates since the 1970 NFL merger to have one player throw for five or more touchdown passes and another run for 160 or more yards in the same game.
Freeman beat out Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers and Cincinnati’s Carson Palmer for honors at the quarterback position. Blount out performed Chicago’s Matt Forte and Minnesota’s Adrian Peterson for top rushing honors.
Kudos to both of them as it’s really great to see our Buccaneers’ finally getting some credit that is long overdue.
