The entire Marvin Lewis situation is the most baffling head coaching situation in the history of the league.
The man is a terrible coach. He is entering his 9th season, and has two winning seasons and two playoff appearances. He has never won a playoff game.
Supposedly a great defensive mind, in eight seasons, the Bengals have finished in the bottom half of the league in points allowed seven times, and five of those times in the bottom ten.
His teams are constantly filled with criminals, showboats, and low character bums that nobody else wants (which explains all of the losing).
How THE FUCK does this guy keep his job year after year? He's completely incompetent. And yet, he is the one making demands! Unreal.Comment

Coached a record setting D a decade ago, and is still somehow keeping his job and reputation as a "Defensive Genius" even though the success he has had as a head coach came when Carson Palmer was throwing for 30 TDs and 4000 yards.Don't Sit Down 'Cause I've Moved Your ChairComment

From what I have read....a lot of the nitwits playing for the Bengals weren't Lewis' first choices. Mike Brown keeps bringing in players like Pacman Jones and forces Lewis to play these guys.
So my guess is Lewis had some kinda card to play in the negotiations against Mike Brown and he played it.
The thing that cracks me up is everyone saying he hasn't done shit since the Baltimore D. But that defense had a pissed off Ray lewis who had just dodged a murder rap, Chris McCallister in his prime, Rod Woodson and a monster of a D-Line that you couldn't run on because Siragusa took up like half the field.
I don't think any of the Bengals defensive players have compared to those players in the last decade.
So maybe he's not an overrated coach, but a poor judge of talent in the draft and free agency. Who knows?
