You Stay Classy Philly (version 3984233992129)

Had to get up early this morning for work and saw this on PFT.

Another proud moment for Philadelphia sports fans
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on January 11, 2011, 6:24 PM EST

Philadelphia sports fans always claim they get a bad rap. Sure, they can be boorish. But so are fans in New York and Boston!

Eagles fans got so upset Sunday about their unfair stereotype that they had to take it out on something, like the car of a Packers fan.

A Wisconsin native that now works in Pennsylvania as a college professor attended the Eagles-Packers game with his father. His Toyota Camry was “stomped on, kicked and beaten.” Mirrors were broken, wipers torn out, and dents made on the hood, trunk, and roof.

“When I left Green Bay everyone said to be careful — the Philadelphia fans have a reputation,” Peter Coenen (the father) told the Morning Call of Lehigh Valley. “My son had a Green Bay Packers shirt on. As we drove in, they gave us the finger.”

Oh, we didn’t realize the guy had a Packers shirt on. Dude was asking for it
They've done a lot worse from the stories I've heard but doesn't make this type of shit excusable. I have to believe some Philly fans are decent people. It's a shame a minority (or maybe its the majority in this case) give all of them a bad rep.

Oh just wait for the shitstorm when the Philly fans see this. You will no doubt be bombarded with the "fans in every city have a small percentage of asswipes, Philly has an unfair reputation" nonsense, as if bad behavior in other cities by equally pathetic goofballs somehow changes the fact that Philly fans are constantly "featured" in stories like this.

Basically, some talk radio guy in Philly decided a few years ago to blame the bad reputation they have on stereotype. That was their rallying point. Where as in the past, they would just admit that they have a larger percentage of animals at their games then other cities, now they like to argue about it and deny its any worse than anywhere else.

Maybe it is a small contingent but lets face it, where there is smoke, theres fire. Stereotypes don't just happen cause someone wants to make something up. Small contingent or not, those Philly fans do some despicable things. The decent fans should be a ashamed.

I'm still waiting for the "He wore a Packers jersey, he should expect it" excuse which the article takes a jab at. I see that all the time as if wearing another teams jersey or apparel justifies ridiculous verbal abuse, throwing food and beer at a person, physical harm, or in this case destroying their property. That one drives me nuts. I can only speak for Packers, Bears, and Vikings games (Bears and Vikings I was an opposing fan and Green Bay I am the home fan). Fans that wear the other teams apparel may get booed or some light verbal jabs but nothing like you hear about weekly with Philly. If you go in there as an opposing fan and act like a punk, well then you have whats coming but in general fans are nice and will invite you to tailgates for beer or food and to talk football. At least thats been my experience.

I'm a Philadelphia resident and a Phillies fan. Don't hate the Eagles, but not a fan either. Actually LIVING here unlike the majority of people that comment, etc...on the fans/people here, I can confidently say that it is a minority of people, and it always does get blown up because of where it happened.

All I've ever gotten in Philly as a Steelers fan or ever seen from Philly fans to Mets fans, etc...have been verbal jabs joking anger. I've never seen an incident between Philly fans and opposing players in all of the 200 or more games that I've been too, Eagles, Phillies or Flyers. In fact, I've only seen 3 fights in all of that time, and all 3 of those were between drunken Phillies fans.

Ive gone to a Dallas vs Philly game before in Dallas and all we ever did was have playful banter amongst each other. This right here is fucking ridiculous. I cant imagine why idiot fans would act like this.

I've seen WAYYYY more fights at Yankee games than I have at Phillies games. It is a minority that does this type of shit.

Unfortunately, security is limited in the parking lots and even to some degree in the stands. I guess you can't have agents in every section, but the NFL's been criticized for this and alcohol policies.

Something like this gets posted because it's Philly. Why did the 18 year old who got killed in a fight outside AT&T park ever get posted? Or the Dodgers fan who killed a Giants fan in the parking lot get posted? It's always just "LOOK AT WHAT PHILLY DID!!!" Whatever, I'm not too fond of Eagles fans away. Yeah, it's bad that they did shit to his car, but no one was stabbed or punched to death like out on the West Coast, and no babies were punted.

I have been to nearly every Packer game this year at the local Packer bar, and I never faced the amount of disrespect that I faced on Sunday night. I had one guy sit down next to me, stay "hey man, this is for you" and wave his middle finger in my face. I had another drunk guy scream at me from across the bar "Fuck Rodgers! fuck him in the ass! and fuck you if you leave the way I'm leaving!".

it's only Philly fans that would go to a known Packer bar to start shit with Packer fans. Every other fanbase i've interacted with this season has been maybe a little pissed, but nowhere near outright disrespectful. This might just be a minority of Eagle fans, but that minority has a level of douchebag you don't see for other fanbases.

LOL! You seem really sensitive dude. I've seen that shit from Yankees fans, Ravens fans, Mets fans, Caps fans, Browns fans, and even Nats fans. I guess I'm surprised that you took it so to heart.

EDIT -- just as a little edition, one time at a Steelers/Ravens game in Baltimore when I was 16, I was trying to take a piss during halftime in a packed bathroom. I had the dude on the urinal next to me saying I was a little bastard fucker just like all Steelers fans while the dude behind me was egging him on to kick the shit out of me. These are two 30+ men, mind you.

You are almost guaranteed to get heckled if you go into an opposing teams stadium to watch your team play. I went to the Chiefs/Ravens playoff game last sunday and had Hotdogs and Hot chocolate thrown at me. Luckily I was tightly and thickly suited up that I didn't feel the hot chocolate and the hotdog hit me in the shoulder.

Then I had to walk back to my car through angry/sad chiefs fans.

25% didn't say shit but stare.
                          25% were cursing at me
                          25% heckled me
and the rest continued to tell me that they hope the Ravens kick the shit out of the steelers.

There were 2 chiefs fans in particular though that made my day. One followed me approx a half a mile to the football stadium with a megaphone. Another followed me out of the stadium all the way to my car yelling at me, "Elton John loves purple too!".

Totally agree. Just trying to demonstrate that it's a lot worse than just having someone flick you off or say that Aaron Rodgers likes it up the butt.

Fuck who ever is standing up for Philly. I have gone to 2 Giants vs Philly games in Philly. Both times I have almost had to fight a group of drunk faggots because they dont know how to talk. Whenever I go to a Redskins game they always invite me over to tailgate and have a beer with them. But in Philly they are looking for fights.
