Maybe stupid question but...How good would a kicker/punter have to be a top 10 pick?

The thought of us drafting Paul Edinger over Tom Brady given our QB situation for decades is highly disturbing to me.

Paul Edinger, what a great Madden kicker.

See, the problem with this is that you're only saying that because Janikowski is still in the league in these guys aren't.

On draft day, you probably wouldn't be saying this. For instance, I would absolutely take LaVar over Janikowski. LaVar was fucking solid and couldn't span out because of his knees.

I remember Deltha O'Neal being alright as well, but just hasn't spanned out as long as Janikowski.

It's very easy to say that you would take Janikowski over these guys in hindsight.

Agree that its easy to judge a draft in hindsight. I guess my point would be that a linebacker like Lavar Arrington probably has a greater chance of injury and is thus a greater risk than a guy like Sebastian Janikowski. Good kickers usually have long careers, and they don't usually get hurt (unless they are Joe Nedney).

Not in Madden, but I also used to sign him in 2k5 because he had a goofy name lol.

I can't see any kicker being #1. Top ten seems unlikely, but first round seems possible. Its not just about the player having the talent, but also a team being willing to make that pick and the other talent available. The contract is an issue, though that could change with a new CBA.

Currently, I don't see a kicker ever going in the Top 15. Like everyone said, a dual kicker/punter that plays both well would be plausible. If I was a team that was in a position where I had a high pick from a trade, but was a playoff team and could use it as a luxury pick - I could consider a very special kicker in the first round.

That is a key right there, I think. It would be a luxury pick. A team that had no immediate needs and no realy depth issues might consider it... but that kind of team doesn't exist in the contemporary NFL.
