Get this. It was the original play call. They had to audible as Hanie couldn't hear the play and they called a timeout...had a chance to think it over and STILL went back to the Jet Sweep to Earl Bennet.

Then how do you not call a timeout on 4th down? Your third string QB is nervous, you call a time out and clearly explain the play.

How was Hanie "clearly" nervous before the 4th down play?

Yes, the Bears lost because of that play. Not because they were down to the third string QB because Todd Collins can't complete a pass. Not because the thrid string QB threw a pass directly into the chest of a 340 lb DL.

Were you goofs calling out Martz when the Bears scored 14 points in the blink of an eye (with the 3rd string QB) to get back into the game?

As usual, Martz is the scapegoat. Did you know he was Hitler's right hand man? And caused Katrina? It's true.

No one claimed the Bears lost because of that play.

              At least I haven't.

It was still a stupid fucking playcall.

He just looked a little rushed getting up to the line and before the snap. Call the time out and take a little time to figure it out and get everything in place. Why the WR he threw it at was running a 10-15 yard pattern made no sense to me either. A little 5 yard curl or out to Olsen would've worked fine.

3rd and 4 running a WR sweep to Bennet was beyond retarded.

Guys like Martz, Sean Peyton, even Belichick, these guys are gamblers, they do goofy shit like this. When it works, people gush (the onside kick in the SB last year), when it fails, they look like dopes (Peyton & Belichick going for it on 4th deep in their own territory in their playoff loses this year, Belichick's 4th down fail vs the Colts last year, and this Bennett run today).

When you have these aggressive mindsets, you take the good with the bad.

Gambling would be going over the top and trying to get a touch down, not running a WR reverse to the short side of the field on third and short went the defense is likely playing closer to the line of scrimmage. Even if they get the first, it is still a bad play call.

He was "rushed" because it was 4th and 5 and the clock was running down in the NFC Championship game.

Olsen ran a 5yd out on the play.

All the timeouts in the world wouldn't have helped Hanie. The play he came in was the first time he took a snap running a Bears play since the bye week.....during the season.

I know it was 4th and 5, so they should've burned a time out and told him what the should look for because he is the third string quarterback and is obviously not very experienced in a clutch sitaution like that. I guess I missed Olsen's route.

Difference there. Those guys have all world QB's. You don't take gambles in NFC Championship games on 3rd and 4 with Caleb fucking Hanie at QB.

Ok burn the timeout there and what if they needed it later and didn't have it? Burning the timeout there doesn't really do much as Hanie was doing better on that drive during hurry up situations anyways. Calling a timeout there also gives the Packers the chance to set up some crazy as blitz call as well if they wanted to.

You can't think about later on in that moment though. Its 4th down, game is on the line and you have to focus on that play, and that play alone. You can't think about what if you need it later one because this play is going to determine everything.
