Polamalu wins DPOY

I don't really agree with this but can live with it since Polamalu is a beast at his position. Still felt like Clay Matthews had a bigger impact this season

DALLAS -- Now that the voters have chosen Troy Polamalu over Clay Matthews for The Associated Press 2010 NFL Defensive Player of the Year award, the two stars can prove their worth against each other on the field.

Pittsburgh safety Polamalu received 17 votes Monday from a nationwide panel of 50 media members who cover the league, edging Green Bay linebacker Matthews by a hair -- two votes.

Despite missing two games with an Achilles injury in his right ankle, in which Pittsburgh went 1-1, Polamalu became the sixth Steeler to win the award. He had seven interceptions this season along with 63 tackles, but made his mark with big plays. In a late-season victory at Baltimore, his leaping tackle forced a fumble that set up the winning touchdown.

could have gone either way really, but i think his clutch-ness got him the award (i.e. the baltimore game, or at buffalo)

I feel Matthews put up the better numbers, but Polamalu was the bigger play maker. Matthews was double-teamed 90% of the year. It's hard to win when that happens, especially with little threat on the other side of the defense in pass rushing. Great season for the Claymaker though. Polamalu made plays all year and especially down the stretch. Would have loved Clay to get it, but I didn't think they'd give it to two guys from the same team in back-to-back years.

EDIT: I think if they incorporate the games in the playoffs, Matthews takes it pretty easily.

Polamalu was more deserving. Would have been awesome for Clay to win but I'm not mad.

Intitial thought was clay got robbed...But after thinkin bout it. I can kinda see it. Clay started the season on fire and just raped. But the second half he was less effective (which was more effective than many others) because teams doubled him 90% of the time. So it goes to Troy who is always the focus, and still does his thing.

When Matthews was out only one game, the team lost, gave up the 4th most yards all year, the 2nd most yards on the ground, and was absolutely abysmal.

Its a tough one, but I think Matthews did more than Polamalu this season.

Can't argue with Polamalu. The impact he has on that team is incredible and he makes the plays.

Just a vote away from a co-DMVP. Matthews got the recognition, just no hardware. The real hardware is just days away...I'm sure like everyone else, he'd prefer to win that one.

that was against the carolina panthers btw. dont try to make it sound like the D shut down the pats without him...

oddly enough this is troy's first dpoy award and it is well deserved. he is a perennial play maker and must be accounted for at all times. I personally was expecting peppers to win it, but I dont see why anyone would be mad that troy got it. except bill of course, no one is a bigger homer than him, not even bmore.

I would rather have seen clay get it, but I have no problem with the outcome. Both he and Troy were almost even in the voting. Both had really a really good year. Ir could have gone either way. Troy got the award, deserves it, congratulations go to him.
