Super Bowl thoughts

I was basing it off the post-season stats. Not just this game. Troy was the defensive player of the regular season, Clay was the defensive player of the year. 3.5 sacks, a fumble recovery, and what most likely was the deciding play in the Superbowl. Can't argue with that at all.

Okay? I guess I don't get the point. He had a better postseason than Polamalu, but I guess I'm confused as to why that's what you choose to focus on. If anything, the play of Rodgers is the story. It seems odd that you want to tout rather mediocre play as some example of why Matthews was the best defensive player of the season.

ah, but DPOY, like MVP, is a regular season award, so you arguement is null and void.

I wasn't disagreeing with the award. I back Troy getting in the DPOY thread. I was just stating my appreciation of Matthews bringing those game-changing plays into the postseason as well. I'm not arguing against Troy getting the award, he deserved it.

the post game presentation was also terrible. thats nothing new but this year they add to the crappiness by have staubach bring the trophy down the aisle thru a crowd of players and then he is up on the platform.

This. I guess people say they have been doing it for years but I have never noticed it. Looked horribly uncomfortable for Staubach.

Aikman and Buck were typically awful. I thought the FOX broadcast failed to live up to the big game atmosphere. Felt like any other game, presentation wise.

And yeah, Buck and Aikman were awful, as usual.

That's Joe Buck's MO. Another call like that that sticks out to me is Game 1 of the 2005 World Series. Podsednik hit's a walk off HR and Joe Buck's call made it seem like it was a HR in the 4th inning of a game taking place in August. Joe buck is terrible. Kevin Harlan on the radio call wasn't much better.

LOL! I remember that and totally agree. The main memory that I have/still joke about is Buck's call of the FUCKING BOSTON RED SOX winning their first WS in 1,000 years or whatever it was. Reminded me of when Harry Doyle passed out due to drunkenness in Major League 2 and Monty took over for him. A screamer is hit and this guy makes a spectacular diving play. Monty's analysis? "Fly ball...*pause*...caught."

this year it seemed unusually awkward with the HOF guys and the coin flip.

That was one of the highlights for me..."Ladies and Gentlemen, the Hall of Fame Class of 2011...Shannon Sharpe (cheers)...Marshall Faulk (more cheers)...Deion Sanders (cheers)...and referee Walt Coleman (confused silence...camera stays on Coleman...uncomfortable staring by Coleman...)"

Why did they introduce Walt Coleman with the Hall of Fame Class of 2011? That made no sense to me. Then the "segue" from that intro to the coin flip was ridiculous.

Agree. Although I didn't hear that call live because I was screaming and jumping around with joy..but later when I watched the highlights I was like...Uhhh...really?

Didn't get why they had O'Reilly interviewing Obama. Not the day for it.

Christine Aguilara was an embarassment.

Not really a Montana/Simms like SB performance by Rodgers, but still a great performance considering his receivers couldn't catch a sticky beach ball. IMO he's on his way to P Manning/ T Brady territory.

I know the last two years the president did itnerviews with Katie Kouric and then the I think it was the guy from the Today show. So they said in keeping with the Spirit and tradition he did it again. They were surprised he chose FOX because of how critical they have been.

Also, I just think that of all the things to tout in this game, the play of Clay Matthews and the statement of him being the true defensive player of the year isn't one of them. No offense.

It needs to be said that Matthews' production was limited because he was spying Big Ben for most of the game and just occupying the A gap so Ben couldn't take off up the gut. Everyone knows Clay is most dangerous coming off the edge.

GB did a great job of keeping him in the pocket, that was obviously the gameplan for them, especially after he had those first 2 runs.

*People are saying there should have been pass interference on that last pass by the Steelers when, in reality, the receiver wasn't touched at all. It was great defense. That's all.

Just goes to show that Tramon Williams should have been in the Pro Bowl. He was arguably our top corner during the playoffs.

*The turf was in terrible shape. I don't know why, maybe it was the recent cold weather, but players were slipping and getting hurt all game. Field goal kicking was a nightmare. On one play, Jordy Nelson fell to the turf and his sock got completely shredded. Were they playing on broken glass?

Jordy wears under armour type leggings. Not socks. So they rip MUCH easier than a sock would. He did slide a good distance too. I didn't really notice the field being bad, appearance wise. It was darker in portions of the field, but I thought nothing of it. I guess it could have been totally different feeling. But it didn't look like anyone lost their footing because of it.

There was only one bad field goal attempt, and it had nothing to do with the field. It was just a terrible kick.
