According to a recent study published in Foot & Ankle Specialist, nearly 36 percent of NFL players who suffered a complete Achilles tendon rupture never played in the league again.
"Those who did return were never able to meet their pre-injury levels of performance," the study also determined. Significant progress has been made in Achilles procedures and rehab, so the outlook for Demaryius Thomas isn't as grim as it would have been 15-20 years ago. On the other hand, while defensive players such as Takeo Spikes and Greg Ellis have been modest success stories of late, running backs and receivers haven't fared as well. We can't write a talented 23-year-old off, but it's hard to like his chances of staying healthy in 2012 and beyond.
