Florida CB Janoris Jenkins dismissed from team

He may enter the supplemental draft in July as a result.

Senior cornerback Janoris Jenkins is no longer part of the Florida football program.

Jenkins met Tuesday morning with first-year Gators head coach Will Muschamp and the two decided it was best to part ways. Jenkins could face more legal issues following his latest arrest early Saturday morning in Gainesville.

“After meeting with Janoris Jenkins today, we both felt it was in his best interest to move ahead to the next stage of his career,'' Muschamp said.

A Pahokee native who was a first-team All-SEC pick last season, Jenkins’ career at UF has been disrupted by repeated off-the-field issues, the most recent one costing him his spot on the roster.

To the surprise of some, Jenkins opted to return for his senior season after undergoing shoulder surgery and was considered a potential first-round pick by many NFL Draft analysts.

At 5-foot-10 and 183 pounds, Jenkins excelled in pass coverage due to his quickness and closing speed. He missed spring practice while recovering from shoulder surgery but was expected to be fully healthy by the time fall camp opened in August.

Jenkins finishes his UF career with eight interceptions, including three as a junior. With Jenkins no longer on the roster, senior Moses Jenkins, sophomores Jeremy Brown and Cody Riggs, and Jaylen Watkins are the most experienced players remaining at cornerback.

In his four months on the job, this is the most high-profile issue that Muschamp has had to deal with involving one of his players getting in trouble.

"We appreciate Janoris' contributions to the University of Florida during his time here and wish him the best of luck.''

Terrible news for Florida, but Muschamp had no choice. I take it a team will spend a 2nd rounder on Jenkins in the supplemental. I'd love for it to be the Falcons.

That trend will continue when Florida fails to win an SEC title anytime soon.

He had a pretty high draft grade from alot of places, i wouldnt be surprised to see a top 2 round selection spent on him.
