My main issue with punts, isn't really who returns(well it is an issue), but that they can't block for the return. Every punt for the past 5 years I can remember the gunners for the opposing team always beats their blocks, and usually about 2-3 lineman get free up the middle also. I mean how often can you remember a ND returner having 10-15 yards without opposing players crashing down instantly.

According to some sources, ND would stand to gain more TV money by joining a conference like the Big Ten. So that's not the reason.

Pretty much. ND as a brand is in a position that most schools can only dream of. No reason to throw that away. And they have historic rivalries in almost every major conference except the SEC.

I was at this game, first row bleachers in the South endzone. Memorable experience. I still have grass I pulled from the stadium turf before we left in a plastic baggy on my wall at home. Also copped a UT pompom from the game too.

e: the bleachers that extend onto the field.

I was there too. I had tickets in the student section, and there were a couple of Tennessee fans in there that wanted to talk shit at the beginning of the game. They quickly shut up after Zibby made it a 21-3 lead.

EDIT: Goodman could take some notes from Tate as well.

LOL. One of the best games to watch in person in recent memory. The loudest it's ever been in the Stadium for I game I've been to (I wasn't at 05 USC). That 8 play goal line stand was beyond epic.

I was there as well. 2nd row in the upper level at the end where the goal line stand was at.

Damn. Small world. You remember just down in front of where I was two jackass fans(1 from Notre Dame and 1 from Washington) talking shit back and forth early in the game?

I was :obama: the entire time and having to remind them that neither of them were actually playing in the game so they needed to just shut up.

Worst :obama: during that was ND kicked a field goal to cut the lead to 7-3 and the ND fan turned the Washington fan all "Come at me bro"...when ND was still losing. Fucking idiot.

I remember apologizing to Washington fans around us after the game for what he was doing and how he was acting.

Sidenote: Michigan '02 was my first "actual" ND game and where I got my love for Shane Walton.

I remember Ryan grant scoring the first offensive TD of the year that game...it was the 3rd game.

I think it should be also said, Golden's hail mary against Houston where he outplayed 3 defenders for the ball.

What I loved most about Tate besides his amazing plays, is he had a swagger. Always would pose on people(subtly) even after little sideline catches. Make sure to watch the second TD Tate scores in that vid.

The more I watch ND highlights of the Weis/Clausen years, I realize how cheese that offense was. Clausen, who would throw a beautiful deep ball, would just chuck it deep to Floyd and Tate so they can out perform the defender every time.
