Really? Because a lot of the national media are talking about it... Ohio State is painting the picture that it is purely a problem that was centered around Jim Tressel and he isn't fighting it, ergo, falling on the sword for the program.

Although its been proven time and time again that Gordon Gee, Ohio State athletics, and Jim Tressel are the dregs of society...I could not find fault with Tressel when the story first came out, because he can't be expected to control the actions of his players.
Tressel proved with Clarett that he has no problems in turning a player in for his indiscretions, so I highly doubt that Tressel was "looking out for his players".

When did Tressel ever turn Clarett in? When the car incident happened with him, Clarett went to Tressel to see what he should do. Tressel had him call the police from his office, and a police report was made of it. Clarett was found to have filed a false police report, and the ensuing investigation showed that he had taken improper benefits and he was suspended for the 2003 season, at which point Clarett left the school and went on a tirade thinking of every possible way to bring down the school and Tressel. And, if you recall, the NCAA camped out on campus then and didn't find jack shit to back up those claims.

When Clarett went to jail, guess who testified on behalf of his character. Tressel? Guess who continued to be there for Clarett when he was in jail? Tressel. Guess who serves a mentor even today to him? Tressel.

All of Tressel's actions are those of a self-centered person.

Jim Tressel's legacy will never be the same, but that doesn't mean he didn't do good.

There are numerous other accounts of instances such as these as well. Like in the past couple of months when he had the entire football team write letters to a high school football player in Ohio who was diagnosed with cancer and is in the fight for his life to boost his self-esteem.

To call Tressel a self-centered person is laughable IMO. Senser, I realize you've been railing against Gee, Tressel, and OSU from the beginning of this whole thing, but if your going to make damning statements about Tressel's character, and what he stands for, you had best do some damn research.
I'm damn proud to have had James Patrick Tressel as the head football coach at my University, and the positive impact that upon the team, the University, and the community will never truly be as appreciated as it should be, but it will never be forgotten.

Let me say this again. Tressel fucked up. He covered it up, and lied to NCAA investigators, and he now he and the OSU athletic department have to face the music for it. But to completely disregard all of the good things he's done for the team, University, and community because of that is absolutely stupid IMO.

The current players named in the investigation are fighting the charges made against them, and an attorney has them gathering the memorabilia they have accrued over their time at the school.

It's good that we have the press to hold things to a standard and act as a check, but at the same time, why can the press continue to report whatever they want and damage reputations with false accusations with no consequences themselves?

I'm expecting something similar to USC's punishment.

A day late and a dollar short. The most egregious charges centered around Tressel's attempt at a cover-up. Tressel was caught, then he was forced to resign eventually as more information came out (drugs, money, cars, etc.). And, of course, the sanctions will affect Ohio State's program, so there is no way Tressel ISN'T adversely affecting Ohio State.

Weird, I said the exact same thing. Perhaps you need to see FirstTimer about how to multi-quote?

When he dismissed him from the team? Albeit after winning a national title with him?

Learn to read, muthafucker. I said all his actions in this situation are those of a self-centered person. I made no character damnation. Tressel's initial actions were to help him win games, and his subsequent actions were to help him keep his job. Pretty basic stuff.

And how can you assume the press reports are actually false? Because the players say they are?

The only person who should be allowed to comment on this is Sportsbuck, because he is the only person that REALLY knows whats going on. Everyone else is clueless.
