    Raiders, Asomugha nearing long-term deal?

The Sacramento Bee hears that free agent Nnamdi Asomugha is "close" to signing a long-term contract with the Raiders.

It's hard to fathom why Asomugha would want to stay in Oakland, but this is the rumor. An undisclosed L.A. radio station and RaidersBeat.com also say a deal is near. If Asomugha isn't locked up by Thursday, the Raiders will slap him with the exclusive-rights franchise tag, costing $11.718 million

Regardless of our cap situation it would be a mistake letting this guy go.

Right they are suppose to tag him but he can still be moved afterwards. I THINK it just costs the team that takes him a little more in terms of move and compensating team he came from.

I believe that if he is tagged by Oakland then the only way a team can trade for him is by giving up two 1st round draft picks.

it is either 2 1's or a 1 and a 3 for him if they tag him. either way they better tag him and trade him. I dont see why he would sign there, he can get more money and play for a team that can win almost anywhere else. The saints need to get this guy bad.

yeah it something like that, because I remember them saying the same thing about Cassell, and i thought "the Pats will shit the bed the again and get 1 or 2 more first rounders"

Citing a source familiar with the situation, the AP agrees with reports that the Raiders are close to a long-term deal with Nnamdi Asomugha.

The AP expects Asomugha to get "at least" $26M in guarantees, the most ever for a cornerback. Chris Gamble is currently the NFL's highest paid corner. He got $23M guaranteed earlier this winter. Asomugha's agent, Tom Condon, has reportedly already sent the contract to the league for approval.

THIS SHOULD MAKE A FEW OF HAPPY

Raiders have some good young players. They have a tremondous upside if they can keep their background staff settled

Good news for the Raiders. Looks as if they are actually making smart decisions for once.

Raiders agreed to terms with CB Nnamdi Asomugha on three-year, $45.3 million contract. The first two years are worth $28.5 million and are guaranteed.

Al Davis is not afraid to go big, and is quietly enjoying a nice off-season. Asomugha is the type of player you overpay; the best cornerback in the NFL squarely in his prime. He's worth extra to Oakland because of their man-to-man scheme. The per-year numbers set a benchmark for corners that won't be matched for awhile. See our contract details for more on Asomugha's record deal.

Holy Shit! The last year of Nnamdi Asomugha's contract he earns either the average of the top 5 quarterbacks salary or about 16 million.

Awesome. Not only is Aso the best all around cornerback in the league, but he is a team first guy and will be a captain and a leader on this team for the next 3 years and will really help all of our young guys come along. You can't put a price on that.
