Report: NFL Salary Cap will be $120 Million

A source with knowledge of the NFL talks told ESPN's Sal Paolantonio on Thursday night that the negotiations for new collective bargaining agreement are headed toward a settlement.

Another hurdle crossed included a tentative agreement to make the 2011 salary cap $120 million, a source told ESPN.com NFL senior writer John Clayton. When a new collective bargaining agreement is reached, it will be seven to ten years in length, sources have told ESPN.
There will be a floor cap which means certain teams will have to spend money to get above it. That # is rumored to be $108 million.

Here's a look at the existing cap #s for each team considering the following

    http://espn.go.com/blog/nflnation/po...ry-cap-figures

As you all know, there’s a lot of uncertainty about the labor situation for 2011. These numbers don’t include what restricted free agents, exclusive-rights free agents or franchise players would count toward the cap because we don’t know that -- and won’t until there is a labor agreement in place. And, although we know there will be a 2011 draft no matter what, these numbers don’t include rookie salaries. The numbers below are only for players currently under contract for the 2011 season.
    Arizona $83 million
    Atlanta $102.1 million
    Baltimore $101.3 million
    Buffalo $96.4 million
    Carolina $73 million
    Chicago $104.9 million
    Cincinnati $90.7 million
    Cleveland $99.2 million
    Dallas $136.6 million
    Denver $125 million
    Detroit $113.8 million
    Green Bay $129.8 million
    Houston $118.4 million
    Indianapolis $115.5 million
    Jacksonville $78.1 million
    Kansas City $74.7 million
    Miami $103.1 million
    Minnesota $108.4 million
    New England $102.3 million
    New Orleans $105.2 million
    New York Giants $126.3 million
    New York Jets $128.5 million

    Oakland $85.8 million
    Philadelphia $80.8 million
    Pittsburgh $116 million
    San Diego $85.8 million
    San Francisco $100.9 million

I was going to say that Carolina has tons of cap space, but Cam Newton just sucked all of that up.

Isn't the rookie wage scale going to be much smaller? I did read contracts will be 4 years long with a 5th year option, didn't see wage rates tho.

also lol @ that cap floor being so close to the ceiling. Tampa's gotta add a fuck ton of money to their roster which means some overpaid bums are going to cash in.

I thought it did, which is part of the why they don't have deals yet.

Indeed. In the NHL they have it at 64 and 48. I just figured you'd have a greater range with higher dollar values in play, not less!

A handful of clubs have handed out bloated deals to aging players to reach the floor, but with this setup in the NFL I think it'll be far worse than what I've seen this NHL offseason.

This seems retarded. The salary cap in 2009 was 130 million.

Denver is expected to be active in free agency, so I wonder what their plan is to free up space. Trading Kyle Orton for the Cardinal's second round pick and restructuring Brian Dawkins contract will help.

Ya this is really gunna screw tampa if that's what the floor is. It's like punishing them for building a good young team mainly through the draft.

Tampa has always had bogus incentives that somehow counted towards the cap that were not actually paid. The Glazer's would rather spend money on their kickball team across the pond.

With that being said, reaching the floor won't be too difficult. All they have to do is overspend on re-signing a few guys to front-loaded contracts and pick up a few average free agents. Next year will also require big spending, but they'll have a full off-season to plot and attack things then.

I highly doubt they throw the money at Nnamdi or any big name FAs though.
