I read that deadspin piece too, Glen. Knew it was a matter of time before you posted it in this thread. I like Nate's writing and really value his perspective on the game but I think he was off base here.

LOL at thinking the NFL establishment doesn't want Tebow to succeed. Even without success he's already one of the most popular players in the league. Of course they want him to succeed.

It looks like the Broncos veterans believe too. I know he didn't win the game himself but the mentality of the team when he is the QB vs. when Orton was starting is pretty plain to see. And that matters for something.

People can dismiss it all they want, but there is no question, watching this guy play the last 6 years, that he is a natural leader who makes everyone around him better. You can argue what that's worth to a team, but I don't think you can argue that whatever that is, he has it.

So, if I'm understanding you correctly, because he isn't a traditional WHITE QB, we are going to look at him in a different light and anything he does outside of "normal" QB play is exceptional?

Remember when Vince Young made the pro bowl his rookie year by completing barely half his passes, throwing more INTs than TDs, and having a QB rating lower than David Carr's completion percentage that year?

Are you impling that there aren't some athletes who are natural leaders?

Players are not robots, these are not sprites programmed with ratings in a video game. Human emotion matters. There is no question some players inspire more passion than other in their teammates. Not everything is tangible, not everythikng can be quatified with a statistic. To what extent? Who knows.

Have you heard players talk about what its like to play with Ray Lewis? Do you think he gets a little something extra out of guys, and keeps them focused? Who do you think commands more attention in a huddle, and better inspires his teammates, Jamracus Russell or Tim Tebow?

I say this in the baseball forum a lot, but players do not perform in a vacuum. As much as we think we can break down everything and quantify it with a statistic, we can't.

I am not disagreeing with anything you said. But at some point being good at football has to come down to more than just vague platitudes. Will Tebow become a good player? Not sure. Is he probably a great teammate to play with? Absolutely.

I'm pretty sure that nobody in the thread is saying he's some sort of lock to become a great player. What's odd here, is we are arguing, but everyone pretty much agrees that we are dealing with an oddity and nobody is quite sure how this is going to turn out. In fact, you can probably even get glen to admit that the odds are long Tebow is a long term success.

I'm just confused at the lengths people go to tear the guy down. This is the wrong week. He's going to go 8-29 with 3 picks and fumble at some pont, you just know it.

Jay Glazer reported on FOX's pregame show Sunday that coach John Fox is revamping his entire offense to more of a college style to suit Tim Tebow's strengths.
Fox is now going all-in on Tebow, acknowledging that the move to more of a Florida Gators look will either revolutionize the game or set it back years. As John Clayton suggested early in the week, the Broncos will put Tebow in the shotgun and "cover their eyes." Last week's game-plan wasn't tailored in the least to fit Tebow, so the change to a spread formation allowing him to succeed on his instincts and athleticism with screens, swings, downfield strikes and designed quarterback runs is great news for his fantasy value. It should boost Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker as well.
